We looked at this one 6 weeks ago, from Autotrader, then £6750. Ashamed to say that I didn't notice the repairs - a lucky escape. Didn't buy because he wouldn't accept an offer to allow for the cambelt which needs doing and also fitting new rear discs - large-ish lips on outside. The o/s rear tyre had a small chunk missing on the kerbing protector. Tyre could be OK, or there could be casing damage caused when the chunk was taken out. He appeared a genuine guy, said he was a mechanical engineer, shows how careful you need to be. Noticed logbook had an extra entry when owner's lady bought it - he said it had been her company car.

Car has an OE sunroof (good!). You should have no prob finding a black one, there were lots for sale when we were looking, but we really wanted a more visble colour.

Good luck!

Thanks, yeah noticed all the above also in the log book there was a weird entry which he said his father in law owns the garage thats why he has no reciept etc!!! He seamed really on edge when we got the laptop out as if he was hiding something, then when asked about the repair he just went quite. Was like he was trying to cover something up!

Everyone be careful of this bloke someone is going to be ripped off!

What's the problem? Maybe it was damaged in transit, and the garage repaired it.

Either list all the dodgyness your finding or don't bother starting a thread at all.

2 'Newish users' slagging off one car in Cambridge seems a bit dodgy in itself.

Not being funny high on dirt, but you pulled out your laptop to do what exactly?

Because after that post, when presumably you got home, why would you ask where the ECU Port is? Surely if you done some logs, you'd have already known.

snoopie, i know nick persoanally and he is legit, and i assume he went with greig who worked for vagtech, so he would have known what he is looking for.

there is no relation between high on dirt and timber.

Right, in that case, the person who works for vagtech should have known where the ECU Port is when they went out together..... Right? :thumbdwn:

do i get points for knowing where the port thingy is even tho i have nothing to do with any vag garage?

In this case yes, your more experienced than a tech who went along...

to be fair, i dunno if they do skodas, i know they usually do vw's, seat's, and audi's.

it's all the same...

it's all the same...

look, how the hell should i know what the reason was for them asking the question in the first place? all i know is that if they say it's dodgy then there is no reason not to believe them. ok?

LOL you guys! The port was found i was talking to the owner of the car! The question i asked about where to find the ecu port was for the next car i go too see as ill be by myself!!!!!

As for slagging off the other car! the reason i am saying its dodgy was the fact the owner, who said he had it from new claimed it hadn't had any bodywork done to it at all!

As soon as i offered him a reduced offer for the car, and said about the repair he went all sheepish! Thus as if he was covering something!

Is it your car? Are you Mike? have i offended you in some way?

if not get off your high horse!

Am I the only one who thinks that someone has spent the time to log on to this forum with the good intend of warning other users about a potentially sketchy cat, only to be ripped into by other users????

Am I naive, or missing out on something? Where has all of this hostility come from?

ladies ladies stop your bitching. Im new to this site so hopefully i wont get slated for sharing my recent experiences winning a cat D repair job on ebay. I didnt have chance to look at it but there were lots of photos and they all looked good. When me and a mate got there (crappy estate in Shewsbury) non of the front panels lined up, there was paint dribbles where the muppet seller had attempted a poor repair. It wasnt taxed as i dont think he had trade insurance, the front fog lights werent even electrically connected, even the rear boot lines were off. The seller said he'd been done over by his mate who had sold it to him and that he only found out it was cat D after the sale. He produced a recepit for the parts with his fricken name on the top of the Skoda invoice. I apologied said he hadnt described it accurately and left. He threatened to claim back the cost of his e bay listing. When i logged on he'd already sent a 'mutual withdrawal' and i havent heard back from him.

Two days after i bought paxtons minter instead. Happy days, now dont start slagging me off!!!

Lol mate dont worry about it looking round the forum most seam nice, I was just telling people about a generally dodgy car! I would be so ****ed if i bought something someone i knew had found out was a pile! Just spreading the word thinking it was the nice thing to do!

Hopefully all wont hate me and when i get my VRS hopefully all will welcome my ideas! My pile of ideas and bits is filling the cupboard already!

Snoopie, if you took the time to read the thread that would have saved me the time to go through it again! But ill let you off. The car in question has damage to the rear left hand quarter, you could see the filler marks also the paint was dull on the rear left hand door. Where the car has be re painted. After pointing the repair out (owner had said nothing has ever been done, he is also the only owner) he went very quite and sheepish. Car had no faults on laptop. But the log book also didnt look correct.

I maybe a new user, thus looking for a VRS!!!!!!! makes sense to me, why would i be an active user without a car to do with the site?

Also the second poster on this thread had also pointed out some issues with the car.

I have pointed something out the owner was trying to cover if a repair this big has been done and bodged a few months down the line and the car will be rotting under the filler! and costing the new owner a wedge, if i had bought the car it would have been taken back and the repair redone for piece of mine. But the owner was not wanting to move from his listed price!

Sorry if i have offended, ill make sure i wont tell anyone about a dodgy car again;) as ill be looking at a few over the next few weeks i hope!

Yes, I agree totally,as usual when using forums there is the possibility that someone, on the forum is up to no good, but in this case it did not appear quite like that, ambe someone's got a sore head! Oh, and oilburninnut's chips look a bit pale! - good looking brown sauce though!

No your not mate. A while back I was having a rant about poor drivers, and quite a few members set on me regarding it. Seems there some very holyer than thow people on here now a days.

I ended up leaving the forum for a bit because of it.
