Dell Vostro 1000 or similar

Featured Replies

Im now needing a new laptop for uni, as my Sony Vaio is way too big & expensive to take with me - so I have been looking for something with the following specs:

  • Dual core processor (either amd or intel)
  • 2GB RAM or more
  • Decent integrate gpu or better
  • X-Black type screen, that copes well under lit conditions (ie outside). Also must be 15.4" or less.
  • Vista home basic / premium

After looking around the cost on average is above £450, but my budget can only really stretch to £350.

I have found this at dell: The Dell Online Store: Build Your System

Components

AMD® Athlon 64 X2 Mobile Technology TK57

Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium - English

Base Warranty - 1 Year Business Hardware Support

15.4" Wide Screen WXGA (1280 x 800) Display with TrueLife™

2048 MB 667MHz Dual-Channel DDR2 SDRAM (2x 1024 MB)

120GB (5400rpm) SATA Hard Drive

ATI Radeon® Xpress 1150 HyperMemory (integrated)

Fixed Internal 8X DVD+/-RW Drive including Software

9 cell Lithium-Ion Battery (85 Whr)

£357.20 inc delivery

So what Im wanting to know is...does anyone have any experience with the Vostro? And can anyone recommend anything that will suit my requirements?

Thanks:thumbup:

I supplied a Vostro 1000 to a customer earlier this week, screen and performance was spot on but the case felt big (i'm used to an Inspiron 6000 and Latitude D620) plastics were cheap and the touchpad felt hollow if you know what I mean. Not very substantial at all.

Ta:thumbup: So would you reckon its worth the ~£360 price tag?

Check out DMXDIMENSION for all the latest offers that dell have on..

Try to buy a "standard" build machine, as it becomes *much* more expensive as soon as you change something :)

also look at the Inspiron 6400, pretty much the same as the vostro, but for £399 you get a decent 1.7gig core2duo instead of the amd

Certainly but as Neo VR says you may be better off with the Inspiron 6400 which uses the same chassis as the 6000 i'm using now, much nicer than the Vostro 1000.

Hold out for Dual Core and 2gb of Ram if you are set on Vista! :D
