you normally remember more details a couple of months l8r...

not really, you think it through so much in your head that you rationalise what "must" have happened, its not something your doing on purpose its just your brain taking over. this is why when you have an accident officials will ask/tell you to write down as many details as you can remember asap before you get a chance to twist your memories naturally.

Sellig any parts? Or is it in a compound?

and the vultures circle:rolleyes:

Ouch! That's some serious dents!

I'm glad you're ok though mate, as everyone else has said, it's easier to replace a car than it is you.

Shame about the loss, but as everyone else said - it's good that you got out relatively unharmed... on to business... If you decide to break, can you give me the chance to make you an offer on the mats (front and rear)? ;)

Bottom half of the airbox? Mines cracked

"very gentle bend taken at a perfectly reasonable speed and next thing I know the back end steps out"

Im no expert, and certainly no driving saint/god, but ive never known the rear to step out unless there was a plausable reason - ie too fast for the road/conditions, diesel/other slippery contaminent, tyre failure etc.

Gutted for you none the less.

I'd guess diesel or oil. Lets face it, the Fabia vRS with standard suspension isn't likley to snap-oversteer, even if you had overcooked it (which it doesn't sound like).

Glad you got out OK. The Fabia is a strong car: mine recently got rear ended, and the only visible damage was scraches and a couple of small holes form the bumper bar getting pushed through the plastic.

Oh these vultures!!! Glad to hear you're okay AND car was standard - that should make settlement a bit easier for you. Small plus side is that it WAS written off, so no worries about how it would feel after rebuild. I hope you find a good one to replace it.

Cor, you lot don't take long do you lol. I am barely over the trauma of loosing my baby and you are already wanting me to start pulling his remains apart and selling him off

He will be left with the insurance company to do with as they will, I just need a settlement as soon as possible to get myself back on the road. I have never had an accident before (in 14 years of driving) and to my horror I now find that you don't get a loan car when yours is a write off. That's bloody diabolical when you consider i'm a fully comp' business user. My work is suffering severely because of this. So to car insurance companies all over the country I say :finger: (unless you're one of the nice ones of course !

On a brighter note I have found the replacement and secured it so the future is looking better

you said about manhole covers they ice up in cold weather and are slippy as hell plus because they are dimpled if you will, you have even less surface of the tyre touching the ground!!!

i bet that caused it

There we go then, I shall sue the council and make merry with the money I get lol :)

That looks like quite a shunt

Good to hear you are ok.

So what is the replacement?

Kiss_My_VRS

The replacement is a 2.0 TDi Octy II in Elegance trim with tyre pressure monitoring, Multi-Function Steering Wheel + Maxidot and the Auto Lights stuff.

Talk about excited. . .

Glad your okay,

my money is on the manhole cover, Theres a a road near me that has two close together on a bend and catches people out regularly sending their back end out...even me and I know its there !!

You have to watch out for those darn man-hole covers. There's one on a road near us that even had my Citroen BX skipping and that had the most forgiving suspension of any car I've owned...

Glad to here your ok & that you have the replacement already lined up.

As for the cause man hole covers my favourite, theirs one near where I live just before my turning on the main road, more than once in the wet I've gone over it breaking for the corner to have the ABS have a right heart attack on one side as it tires to get grip.

another advert for ESP if ever I saw one...

Not sure ESP would have the power to stop an "off" if it was indeed caused by a wet manhole cover. There are two together (they seem to hang around in packs!) on a left hander where I live and my dad's ESP'd Passat still slides over them like a good 'un particularly at this time of year.

Glad to see you got out OK though, I bet you started shaking afterwards.

true, would still be no grip over the manhole covers (cant change the laws of physics) , but as soon as you're back on the tarmack, the ability to brake the right wheels in the right order, to get it back on line in 300 millisecond intervals makes a huge difference.....

there is a roundabout where I live, with a nasty line of broken tarmac on the exit (your suspension bumps over it) and in the wet, when loading the wheels up, it really used to unbalance the furby, espescially when the rear wheels hit it, overcook it, and you go sideways, as I've seen people do (not me, I drive safely ;) .....) but in the fiat (ESP) under exactly the same circumstances, the ESP will immediatly control it, if it tries to break free..... its a safety feature that the insurance companies (statistical anylists) state could save up to 80% of this type of accident.... shouldn't be shrugged off as not worth it.....

check this out.......

maybe similar circumstances?! http://www.briskoda.net/forums/general-car-chat/rave-abs-esp/97717/

Whoa! That's a mess! Glad you're okay.

You're very lucky to make it out of that one as the roof has started to cave in.

Glad you're ok.

It's a shame the insurance company aren't as good as the build quality of my Furby - still no word on whether it's a write off yet. Spoke to them today and they suggested I spoke to the RAC who assess the cars for them and see what the outcome is. My reply went something like

"you're the insurance company, I pay you good money to do a job so get on and do it. You phone them, you chase it up and I will speak to you tomorrow when you call me with an answer" !

Grrrrrrrr

That's a write off I can tell you for free....

But yes insurance companies are frustrating to say the least.

God,

You still haven't got assessed  You did yours about a week before me as well.

Mine was assessed very quickly, I am still waiting on a settlement figure however. This will be the slow part though getting the money out of them..

Doug

That looks nasty, glad you ok. I had similar problems when I wrote off my Furby back in June. The insurance company were long about telling me what happened and even longer when it came to playing me.

Ah, time for an update then everyone.....

Insurance have assessed the car and decided it is a total loss (no shock there then !). This was on the 11th January and I was told that a letter would be in that evenings post with an offer. I called them again yesterday to ask where my offer was and they replied that they were waiting for me to send my documents before they made an offer. It was at this point that I completely lost my temper and pointed out that the documents were delivered and signed for at their office 10 days ago to which I was told "oh yes it says they were signed for, we haven't opened the post yet". Not opened the post for 10 days, what the F**K ! ! !

So i'm now waiting for them to open their post and read my insurance certificate and v5 to check that I am insured and that I do own the car I presume.

So my official opinion of Prestige Insurance is :finger: The fact that I'm a business user and I can neither get to work nor visit my clients until they have sorted this out seems to mean nothing to them.

Does anyone know any codes of good practice voluntary or otherwise that I can quote to get my insurance company to act professionally ? Hell if i was as good as my job as they seem to be i'm sure i'd be sacked. . . .

GOOD NEWS - I picked up my new car yesterday and all I can say is wow, every cloud does indeed have a silver lining. 07 plate Octy II Elegance 2.0 TDi with a few extras. I love it. First thing I did was hook my iPod up and now I have access to over 1000 albums. Driving to work and back has never been so comfortable or 'tuneful' :)
