Star Inn - January?

Featured Replies

Anyone?

The star inn in around in January.

Rather than the Star Inn I was wondering if people would be up for one at a nice and large pub with a good car park I know near winnal (M3/A34 junction ish).

Might attract a few more people from the southern regions as IMHO Newbury is right at the limits.

righteo... I don't mind? Newbury is two hours away anyway!

Lol. It's where the A34 meets the M3.:)

I'd be happy to do the Star Inn if people have organised that, but since that hasn't happened for a couple of months I was thinking of trying to do one there.

If there is interest in doing something at the pub I said and nobody is doing anything at the Star then I might well get a thread up in the right place.

Too far far for a weekday evening for us

Location is a problem in the region when trying to get most people in.

Star is a long way for most of us but does attract good support.

We used to go to the L & B and then we'd get Des. Gerry, Jeff and a few from that sort of area make the journey.

Trying to find a nice place that is reasonably accessible to most is the dilemma. Steve and I have looked at it a couple of times before. Suggestions are more than welcome.

Star one month, L & B the next and alternate would be my suggestion. If you want somewhere further south thats easy to find try the Bullington Cross Inn. Its in the middle of the A303/A34 Junction

Star is fine for us, it takes about an hour or just under....which is probably about right for a weekday meet....trouble is the members are very spread out in this area so finding the centre of the area withe most people in it and there being a good pub there is not easy

I know when johnwg becomes a moonraker in March we will try and organise a meet down this way ........(maybe at Avebury or near Devizes) but it will have to be a weekend as most people will have a way to travel.

Bullington Cross is fine by me (not sure what the food is like) it's a right swine to find on that roundabout/interchange thing......you can see it, but finding the way in

I posted it a bit tongue in cheek, as some will know Its about 4 miles from my front door. The last time I went there must have been 5 or 6 years ago, it was used by the Impreza guys for a meet, seemed Ok if a bit smokey but the new laws will have sorted that.

No idea what the grubs like, menu seems typically "pubish"

The Bullington Cross Inn

I agree finding the entrance is not as easy as you would think but it can be done, Its virtually opposite the access onto the A303 going West towards Andover

The Star Inn meets have taken a bit of a back seat recently as the last few of last year were not as well supported as those were in the Summer/Autumn months in fact the attendance figures dropped off significantly (for various reasons!) and the 'Christmas' one had to be postponed.

I think the best way forward is to alternate between a couple of venues as has been suggested so that we can attract and keep people intersted in coming. I have not had the inclination to organise one this month as there are other things going on such as the upcoming RR day but that's not to say someone else can have a go at arranging something.

When it gets a bit warmer I think the Star is a great venue for us ie. big car park, decent food, our own little area etc. and perhaps somewhere aroud the A3/M3/M25'ish area as an alternate destination would be the way forward but open to suggestions

Well I'll put the cart and horses forward as one of a few alternatives.

I might have a feeler thread up in the south section, but Newbury is getting a bit too far for a drink on a regular basis what with fuel prices.

Was that 5 or 6 years ago?! From what I remember the food was pretty good and typical pub food with burgers and chips, etc. The entrance is quite hidden but very easy to find if you drive past it every day :rofl:
