good stuff.

what gap should be used?

(note to self go and buy Haynes manual!!!)

What is this "gapping"?

Sorry, I don't know anything about it!

I use NGK PFR6Q's with a 0.8 gap. The PFR6Q is the plug fitted at the factory.... just without the VAG logo's. If you want the logo's, then the part number for the plugs from the dealer is 101 000 066 AA. Expect to pay twice the price, though!

The 'gap' is the distance between the central electrode and the ground or side electrode... basically it's the distance which the spark will go. A standard Octy vRS with the AUQ engine should have a gap of 0.8mm. You can change the gap by carefully bending the ground electrode towards or away from the central electrode.. some feeler gauges have a little tool to help you do it.

Ah right, thanks :)

NGK BKR7E - these are a nice standard copper cored plug, one heatrange cooler than standard - they WILL work better than a fine tipped platinum or iridium and extract heat away from the tip faster so reducing the potential for pre-ignition/detonation.

The only downside is lifespan, they'll need changing more often, but at less than 2 quid each it doesn't matter

The only benefit that the fancy tipped models offers is extended service life which is the reason that VAG specify them, so they can claim you can get away with leaving them in there forever.

Exactly the same with the bosch super 4's. All the spark is doing is going to the nearest available tip.

im after some so i can service the car myself. there are many websites out there. Your looking at around the 6 quid mark per plug depending on make

Halfords is quite useful, but so are your local motorfactors.

Use Audi RS2 plugs in both my modded Octys....never miss a beat:rolleyes:

Fitted under advice from mates at APS

rs2?

Yep, NGK PFR7B...got mine for £33.14

ive just been quoted 26 inc vate for full set of splitfires not sure how good they are or if they are just a gimmick

Gimmick.

Lol - I hover like a hawk

all the split fires do is again, get the spark from the nearest tip.

ive just ordered a set of the standard NGK's for £31 delivered

where from matt?

Yeah they're daft... the only advantage you may get is that the gap may stay correct for longer.... but the chances are that the central electrode will deteriorate before either of the outer ones anyway.... so they're pointless.

wow were all over this post tonight lol

The choice is really down to how long you expect them to last , the copper core NGK's will do 6-8K miles before benefiting from a change and cost £7 a set on your doormat.

If the additional service life is worth the extra cost of anything else to you, then all well and good, personal choice in the end. Functionally the BKR7E will work equally as well as anything else. :D

6-8k is like 6 months driving for me so id go for at least something i can change annually
