Tata have launched their new "Peoples Car" in India

The vehicle, called the Tata Nano, will sell for 100,000 rupees or $2,500 (£1,277) and enable those in developing countries to move to four wheels.

The four-door five-seater car, which goes on sale later this year, has a 33bhp, 624cc, engine at the rear.

Not sure I would want one, but it seems amazing what they can do for the money. If something like this make other manufacturers look at their prices, then maybe it can be a good thing for all of us.

Impressive when you think about it! :)

Id have one for work runs.

Wonder what the NCAP safety is like though ?

Thats fab... i mean obviously not as a car (it somehow offends my eyes!) but im sure its pretty reliable and simple to work on and fix!

And for £1300... well, words ellude me!

EDIT: Just looked at it properly... it seems to have the back end of a smart car at the back and the back end of a Ford KA at the front!!! hehe

Looks no worse than the new Kia

Bugger, knew I'd forget some thing..........

Have to remember Skoda used to be about quality and value for money. Most people bought them for the price.

Looks quite good, I think it would sell quite well at that price in the UK if it proves to be reliable. Probably mainly to the sort of people who buy kia's, so women and old couples. Only thing is I am 6'3" and I just couldn't put up with 33hp and max speed of 65mph.

Looks ok, and if it met all the safety standards would make a nice round about, but it would not sell at that price in the UK, more like £5000 plus :thumbdwn:

Yep, just like the City Rover which was a rebadged Tata, rebadged rover and sold here for 2x the price.

The City Rover was Rovers own undoing.

Had Rover bosses not given themselves such a large payrise but put that money into improving the CR then maybe they would mhave had this "new Metro" that may have saved the company.

This new Tata certainly looks ok for a runaround and they have said lux models would be available with a/c and things.

The idea behind this car is not spending loads and getting 100,000+ miles out but spening less and seeing how long it lasts although if you did look after it it would prob run and run.

If this car did come to the UK it wouldnt sell for 5k. I reckon the base model would be about £3k maybe less if an import deal was struck.

I think it all depends how it's marketed - it could well become a "lifestyle" car for Londoners. After all, the G-Wiz retails at 7k

You're kidding me! £7K for that heap of crap!

I thought you got them if you collected enough coupons off the back of Quavers and Skips packets.

edit: A quick check reveals that the 2008 model is...

The base price is £8,895 inc VAT, allow 16 weeks for delivery.

Obviously that comes with the standard leg amputation if you crash it above 15mph.

I've just 'pimped' mine up with leather and a 20m extention lead  It comes in at £11943.01

Pimp your GWhizz

The tata won't come to the uk. It would be a good car to have, but it won't come here. The brand isn't strong enough and the car wouldn't meet the standards set by other manufacturers. Plus the cost of converting it o meet uk legislation and roads lol
