Remote assistance assitance

Featured Replies

Hi looking for some help, Im trying to set up a remote assistance link to my pc at work via messenger.

I have managed to get my boss to send the assistance request, and I accept, but it wont connect. It wasnt asking for any confirmation on my bosses end either I dont think (not the most technologically minded person).

Both pc's are connected to the net via a router if that makes any difference.

Any ideas why it doesnt work?

the port the rdp uses if probably block by either router.

Use netstat to find the port and make sure is open at both ends on the router's firewall (I'm assuming it's Bband ?)

As Andy suggests, the free version of logmein will sort things nicely for you mate, more flexible than RDP / RA as well.

Never tried it using Messenger, but I use https://secure.logmein.com/home.asp?lang=en which seems to work OK.

Maybe worth a try if other methods don't work?

I also use www.logmein.com to connect to varies sites. Extremely easy to set up and no worries about configuring firewalls etc

looks good, ive got it set up at the office end now, but i notice its only a trial, so what happens when that is up presumably it means I have to pay?

Logmein have a few products available. The one to use is Logmein Free, which is totally free.

The other products which aren't free have more features. For basic remote controlling, the free version is good enough imo.

Which version did you install?

I have version 4.0.680.

Its the trial of pro I have at the moment, but so long as i can remotely connect to the office pc and its not going to suddenly stop working cause im not paying anything then im happy.

I have just tried it within the office, and it works excellently, and the time on the trial doesnt seem to have moved so I assume that that doesnt affect it.

It will revert to the free version once the trial expires mate, you will get a couple of mails from them to ask you to "go pro" but you can just ignore these
