Sitting 70-292 MCSA 2000 to 2003 exam next week

Featured Replies

Hi. I am sitting this exam next week. I have to get through this and the 70-296 exams before they retire them at the end of March. Has anybody else sat these lately? Wondering what to expect. Although I have sat several exams quite recently, my last MS once was nearly 2 years ago. Once those are out of they way, I need to do the Citrix CCA one. After that little lot, I quite fancied getting stuck into the CEH.

It's never bleedin ending :eyepop:

I did mine a year or so back , and it wasn't all that hard.

Have you downloaded any exam-sim software?

I have some sims that came with the books I am using (Microsoft and Syngress). I also have some CBT Nuggetts. I am sure i will be OK, but I did fail the 70-292 a couple of years ago when I was new to 2003. I concentrated on some Linux ones after that as (a) I needed it for my job, and (B) I lost confidence in myself :(.

Thanks for the info.

Good luck!

Im determined to get my 290 and 291 this year to get me MCSA:messaging, and maybe another one or two to aim for MCSE..

how many exams do you rekon i would realistically take in a year? one every 3 months you think?

Good luck mate, ad don't forget you can't loose anything, only win.

Failed it :mad::mad::mad::mad:

And, by Christ, it was a git of an exam. Now I don't consider myself to be un-knowledgeable, I mean, that was the 23rd exam I have sat !! And I have been into the computing game ever since the ZX80 !!, but, what a $h1te exam. I had 40 questions of which probably 30 odd related directly or indirectly to DNS covering really bizzare configurations that I am never likely to come across. Most had exhibits, some with multiple tabs in them, that you had to keep flicking to and from. Most questions you had to scroll through as the question/answer combination was way to much to fill a single screen. The questions were too "busy" with too much cr@p in them. A few made no sense, a few had typos, a few had very poor grammar, etc.

All this after (a) I turned up at the address I was given to take the exam only to be told they had moved about 10 miles away, so I was going to be late - although they rang them and explained for me. (B) I couldn't find the new building, © When I clicked start on the exam, it just said invalid ID number cuss they entered the wrong code, and I had to wander off looking for someone, (d) I was given no note paper and a pen, (e) Twice, the screen froze between questions with just a white screen for about 3 minutes !!

Now I don't have time left to resit this and take 70-296 befor they both retire at the end of March - bugger!

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :redhot:

your not alone, the 70-292 has currently got the highest failure rate of any microsoft exam, and because they are retiring it they refuse to fix it. (I used to own a training company and had a prometric testing centre before I went back to freelance work)

very obscure DNS questions, some questions that have no plausible answer, it's a total sham. The old 53 question 292 was a "proper" exam by all accounts and I just missed out on taking it.

The 296 is much better, I failed my 292 twice ........... but got 980 on my 296 and then got 1000 / 960 / 1000 on my 3 exchange 2007 exams.

I am pretty sure the only way to pass the 40 question 292 is to head for testkings.

You WILL have a much better time with the 296, without a doubt, it is more "real world" and has questions with clearer objectives.

ive just booked 290 for march... guess i better start revising for it now :o

so glad i only do Apple certifications :D

Cheers mate. That does make me feel better to know that. I thought I was loosing it. As much as I hate the things, I guess I am going to have to go down the testking route. I know the content, it's just the crazy stupid exam questions that I am going to have to, for want of a better word, "cheat" to get around. If the questions were more real world, and carefully written, people would not have to resort to this, and the qualification would have a true meaning. I have done a couple of CompTIA exams, and a couple of LPI ones and understood every question, and could relate to every question. Why can't micro$oft do the same :finger:

I had the same idea as you last week; passed my MCSE 2000 18 months ago and have sat on my thumbs doing the upgrades ever since. The email from MS announcing theie retirement spurred me into action!

I took 70-292 on Tuesday, and I have to say I didn't find it too hard (I got 775, needed 700). I did some swatting from an pdf book, but I have to say a fair amount of the questions I reckon I answered from my own experience of Win2k3 support these past three years.

There was a lot of DNS, some stuff on DHCP, AD, a bit of Group Policy and security template stuff, Terminal Services, user management, IIS (inc. HTTP printing), SUS, that sort of thing.

It's definitely boosted my confidence for 70-296 (for which I have better study material, inc. some test exams), which I've got booked for Feb...

Congratulations. Unfortunately, I have lost confidence in Microsoft exams now. I passed my 2000 MCSE and MCSA (with Security) way back in 2004. Prior to that, I did the NT4 MCSE. My job dictated that I had to learn Linux in great depth over the last couple of years so I got a bit rusty with Windows (Great with Linux now though :)) Rather than rush and resit a bad exam, I have decided to focus my attention on getting through the Citrix CCA exam. If I want to do the 2003 MCSE/MCSA, I'll just have to take the full track route.

Microsoft exams are like their software; overly cluttered and overly complicated. At least with Linux, it does exactly what you want it to do - nothing more, and nothing less

Hey guys - I have some useful exam-related links and practice tests.

pm me and I will explain!!

Just passed the 70-238 exam for MCITP – Enterprise Messaging Administrator

This will be my seventh cert since mid last year! :D

Just had a questionnaire emailed me from Micro$oft about this exam. I gave it them with both barrels :D:D
