Need to change the front tyes on my Fabia vRS

Featured Replies

Morning,

It's been a while since i came here, but just a quick question. Im nearing 19,000 miles and i need to get my front tyres changed...does anyone have any suggestions on what brand to go for etc? I am completely useless when it comes to tyres (and most other things while were on it).

Also, can i just go to my local Kwik Fit or STS (tyre place) and have them replace them, or will i need to go to a Skoda dealership because theyre low profile tyres etc etc.

Any help much appreciated.

I would say Toyo would be a good choice for your vRS mate.

Righto, have got a few Tyres to look out for which is great. Although now i need to know where to get them, can i just go to a local tyre place like Kwik Fit/STS Tyres? I don't know if small places like them would stock the low profile type tyres im after is all? Did you guys go to a place like Kwik Fit etc or did you do it yourself?

Anyone know of rough cost? Have never changed the vRS's tyres before...

The size on the vRS is pretty common - just ring ahead and make sure they're in stock :D Rough cost will depend on the fitting cost but expect around £70-£80 a corner tops

Chris

Most tyre fitters will have tyres to suit the Fabia, they're not such unusual sizes, really. You might want to try your local independents before getting r*amed by Kwikfit and the like, though.

Ok excellent, thanks guys.

I got Toyo T1-R's from a local tyre place fitted and balanced for £71 each.

The thing your quoting to tyre places is 205/45 R16 83W thats for the toyo T1-R which are a comprimise between handling noise and cost. They are a good all round tyre

Good stuff, thanks all round :)

thats a bloody good bargain that mate

when i got a quote for a new michelin they wanted 110 a corner

19,000 miles!??!?!?

Mine were changed at 4000 miles last month..

Admittely they were thrashed for the first 2500 miles of its life (ex-demo car).

Anyhow, I went for O.E Continentals. £184 pair fitted, local garage.

Very competent tyres - I run out of bravery before I run out of grip in the dry.

19,000 is pretty impressive - managed to reach 15,000 before mine needed changing.

You been running yours without ASR on a track?! 4,000 miles!!! That would be 3/4 sets a year for me!

Toyo T1-R for me. Great Tyre. £57 a corner of the website about and £25 to fit balance etc all 4.

Bargain.

Just had to put 4 on mine.

205/40/17 Kuhmo ecstas.

£240 fitted and balanced etc.

It's made hell of a difference, and personally I rate the tyre, as I had them on my last vRS.

Rears are still the original (14k) Conti SC2's, front have Avon ZZ3's on them for about 5000 miles and they've got about another 1000 or so miles left on them...

Hankook K104 Sport at least 10k miles out of each set of mine

Ive ran Toyo T1R's and Falkens both are good, though the toyo's were better on MPG than the falkens are.

My toyo's lasted for 30k with swaping the front to the rear regular. I've been told that its not possible to get that out of them from members but I did. But I probably drive like an old man.

I got mine from Camskill vrey quick and good service then get you local/mobile tyre fitting company to fit them for you. I would say this make sure you check the air pressure afterward due to a mainstream fitter filled mine with 60psi!

if you got 19000 miles out of your last set then i wouldnt go for toyo's, they are very soft and will not be anywere near as good as the ones currently on in my honest opinion! ive had two different sets of t1-r and t1-s on toyo's on a few different cars and i took them off half worn as they where shocking.

i found road noise (excessive humming) to be a massive problem with the toyo's, this went away straight away when i canged the tyres, their wet weather traction wasnt great either. :thumbdwn:

if you want a tyre for mileage go for michelins, also as mentioned the continentals are a very good tyre.

i think the best tyre all round is the goodyear eagle f1 but they are much softer and wont last as long as the michelins or contis.

it all depends on your driving style and what you want from a tyre whether it be grip, mileage or somewhere in the middle

federal S595's are a good budget tyre..... not up to the spec of the top brands, but very close, and perfectly capable, and cheap! :)

although, if I can afford it, i'm going back to my original bridgestone potenza's next time ;)

I've been happy with the falkens - got the receipt from the previous owner for when they went on.

So far they've lasted 12,000 with minimal to no signs of wear.

I'm running 17's but have had Toyo T1S, T1R and PX4. The T1S were excellent but noisy, the other two weren't quite as good for grip but were much quieter. I've just put Yokohama Parada spec 2's on the front of mine and although they've only been on for a few hundred miles, early signs are that they are even better than the Toyo's!

I run Falken ZE512's in 205/40/17 on my VRS, i like them, better than the naff Kleber rubbish that used to be on them.

There cheap too, £117 for two tires fitted. i dont go to kwik fit etc as there engineers are usually garbage and the prices are a joke, independant all the way for me....
