Ive just been trying to et a quote on the Direct line site for a basic subaru impreza 1.6gl which is group 10 insured in my own name it is

Don't try to find logic in the ways of insurance companies thinking... But most likely it is due to the replacement costs when totalled... A new car is relatively more expensive to replace than it would be for an old car (day-value).

day tripper , I assume you paid the dealer a deposit when you ordered the car - which is non refundable ( at the dealers discrection ) , so if you cancel now you will lose the deposit .

Perhaps it would have been wise to have got some insurance quotes before you ordered the car .

The quote that i got before i ordered the car is the same as i have now (on my mums name). I dont mind losing the deposit, but I will stick with it in my mums name. No problem.

Insurance groups these days don't mean a whole lot - they work off many more factors than

this could encompass.

Unfortunately, the difference between being 21 and 22 in the insurance companies eyes is

pretty much nothing - best you'd get is a lower excess...

If you hadn't already ordered the vRS, I'd recommend getting a cheaper car to insure for a

few years while you build up your NCB. Seeing as how you've already ordered the vRS though,

and

That's the thing about insurance - can't quite get an angle on it

This is exactly what Im talking about. Im going to call up tomorrow DL once and for all to confirm if the phone price matches the online price.

I gto my insurance from DirectLine online; also used confused.com and they came back with a slightly cheaper quote from DirectLine also.

You can pay online or just give the ref/quote number if you ring up; they should be able to pull the details using this.

So there should be no problem.

I pay approx

Adrian , have you had an after Jabbasport quote for your insurance yet , because I'm also with DL and my new renewal quote looks to have gone up by

Hi Pete,

not yet. I did ask for a quote just after I got the RS back in Sept last year. I said it was an increase of 11% (can't remember where I got that % from). Anyway increase was

DL are basing that on an increase of between 20-30% , told them that new BHP would be approx 225 , so 20-30% covers anything from 216 to 234 BHP , think your increase of 15% is a little on the low side ;)

But as Adrian says, how are they going to verify the exact bph it puts out if the car or engine has been damaged? I think I'd be honest about the remap, but not on the exact increase in performance... after all, you need to put it on the rolling road to verify that, and when it's broken, that isn't going to happen...

Q.

We pay the blood suckers enough money as it is and at least we're being "honest" ;) and declaring an upgrade.

Taking that the majority of RS' actually pumps out 190bhp, 15% is approx 220bhp so I can live with telling them this.:D

Cheers.

Adrian.

Just got my quote from DL for my Jabba remap:

from July to Sept (my renewal date) it's an extra

Can I ask again how insurers have reacted to our 4X4 owners who have tuned from 150bhp to circa 200-225bhp - an increase of around 50%? I'm not so much interested in the final premium, but rather by how much they loaded the original premium. And what insurance group did your cars end up in?

I thought when chipping the 4X4 insurers pretty viewed it as an RS (hmmm....can of worms being opened:D) and charged a similar premium???

Fab will know.
