I'm sure the insurers know all the tricks when it comes to granny registering the vRS for her granson to drive etc etc! My sister (43) recently insured a car for her son (22) and was asked to explain who would be main driver, who was owner etc.

The car is registered in her name with her son as main driver, the insurers accepted this. The cover was cheaper than her son going in his own name but more expensive than if she had been the main driver; of course the son does not build up no-claims but at least he gets affordable (legit) coverage.

Like Rob says, insurers should know the truth. The only time you find out they dispute coverage is when you and/or you car are in pieces and need fixing.

Looking through this thread have you noticed what an age range we have?

LOL looks like im the youngest hehe.

Well my capri, once i got it i transferred ownership into my brothers name, and he insurance guy came round, and the policy holder way my brother, my brother the main driver and me the second named driver. The d/d was coming out of my bank a/c, and the guy was asking me the questions while doing the quote and not my brother.

It was obvious, however, it is not illegal, i would assume he wants my custom, but if it came to a crash they would kick up a fuss.

I wouldn't say there was anything illegal in that itself. The only problem with

this would be if you were the main driver rather than your brother - even then,

they'd be hard pushed to prove you weren't just being a second driver. But

then, just because they'd be hard pushed doesn't mean they wouldn't manage

it ;)

tesco is 1400 in my mums name and me as 2nd driver, im sure i can find ceaper if i check with perfoamcne ones

Performance insurers not always best..... Adrian Flux were fluxin' useless for my M3.....

Direct line have given me a slightly cheaper quote than Tescos for a vRS..........

Tesco appear to be reselling Direct Line's insurance (if not more) - sometimes they're cheaper, sometimes a little more...

Between them they seem to be very cheap compared to a lot of other companies :-D

Remember that you should always try ringing the companies and tell them you've had cheaper quotes - if you're lucky they'll find a way to get their quote down...

Check out the insurance links:

confused actually gave me a slighty better quote with Directline than I found myself.

Also I believe that Adrian Flux give a 10% discount for Briskodians.

Remember though that due to you age you may be required to fit an alarm and have a steep excess......the steeper the excess the less the premium.

Cheers.

Adrian.

I assume that you have had a look at the list of insurers in our web links here? :)

yes ive had a brief look, adrian flux-tried getting an online quote-would not allow it as im under 25!

Doesnt the vrs come with immobiliser and alarm, ive seen in the accessories brochure the thatcham alarm.

I believe "only" a CAT2 immobiliser is standard. You can have a Scorpion alarm fitted from the options lists which is rated as a CAT2-1( I think); brings the immobiliser upto CAT1.

I shell out

My wife (28) as the main driver, me (26) named on her policy, both fully comp, business use, upto 20K miles, no mods, several years no claims, L23 post code,

I reckon I'm a lower risk with wider wheels anyway, because I can swerve quicker now.

That is the essence we like to see...my argument about getting out of danger quicker with a 48% BHP increase, met with a similar result :D

For the post 28Male 4Y NCB, nil points; 32Fem additional, 800ishwith Direct Line. Will be moving at the end of the period to a higher premium but more "performance" biased company so it will cost less with mods etc.

Insurance is all about calculating risks. All kinds of factors are taken into account, including the safety features of the vehicle, the security features, it's desirability, etc... And that's even before they consider the driver, local crime rates and stuff.

There recovery is good as well, I trust you have that included, as you know they bought us & the Scoob back from Imola last year giving us a choice of hire car or plane ticket & the Scoob getting back intact 3 weeks later. They also give I think its 3 track days a year including continental tracks subject to prior notification
