I'm just waiting to see if I get a NIP throught the post, B*****d was sitting on a bridge in the far left lane no operative on it, not sure if they can check speed automatically on mobile speed traps but if they can then I'm seriously worried..

I actually had a similar thing happen to me a few weeks back. A suspicious looking vehicle parked on top of a bridge (Wendover bypass for those who know), but no cameras in view. The van had 2 black windows on both sides, so I've no idea if it was a police van, used for road tax or other 'law-enforcement agency'. I haven't received anything so far though, so it might just as well have been a farmer taking a leak ;)

When I say the "B" word I was refering to the Camera! There was actually a camera on a tripod looking down sort of onto the slow lane?

There was no person looking through it...he was just sitting inside a silver renault espace?

I'm really worried coz I looked at speed_trap.co.uk and the camera and van looked really similar to the one on their site?

Thing is, can this camera just work automatically or does it need human intervention to operate it?

I only picked the car up on Thursday I wonder if thats the quickest anyone has ever lost their license ;)

I just renewed mine, and coming back up from dover on the M20 near the channel tunnel there are some roadworks with SPECS cameras. Whoops, I thought I had passed the last camera so got upto near 60 then doh another camera, so I am waiting for my 1st speeding fine in my driving history.

SPECS - Digital speeding camera that measures the time it takes to travel between points and then calculates your avg speed.

Oops... looks like you're fscked then mate! :(

Yeah I think so too :(

As a rule I'm not into going too fast and I'm definately not proud of it, mostly speeding is for T****rs!

I Just had one of those red mist moments where I honestly didn't realise what speed I was going!, (these cars are so bloody fast!!) but unfortunately that won't stand up in court ;(

mind you, if I get away with it, it'll be the best lesson I ever learned.....tho I'm not holding my breath...!

That does sound like some kind of surveying camera, but I might well be wrong!

Hope for your sake it is - I know my luck's the same though. The odd occassion I do

hammer it there will be a police car somewhere!

Just got a quote for myself,

Eh? How?! Have you tried doing a DirectLine online quote? I've found them to be the cheapest

for young male drivers...

with cis, and on my mums name, they added 25% to make up for my age. With direct line when i input my own details it doesnt go through and asks for me to call up, through te direct site i can get a good quote for me and my mum, but would expect it being a wrong figure.

Are there any vrs owners here who are in their early twenties? just got a quote from hyperformance for

Day tripper

Youd better make your decision soon , how long is it till your car is being delivered??

This week.

Ok i have tried a quote on the direct line site, iwth my mum as main driver and me as second driver, all the details i have entered are valid and true. The quote is around

Did mine online, although with a different insurer. No problems here.

Did mine online with Direct Line , no probs here either , but then I wasnt in your situation Day tripper as the car was in my name and I am the only driver.

The car will be registered in my mums name when the car arrives as ill be calling skoda tomorrow to state that.

All the details that were asked were true, can i ask those who bought online after you complete the transaction does a broker contact you or do you just recieve the paperwork to sign. Im just really worried they will try and change the priemum once started.

DT

No contact , just an envelope thru the door with all your paperwork in.

  • Author

Can i also ask please, if say for example they did increase the priemium. By the way i pay monthly through d/d and decide to cancel half way through, i am not liable to termination charges?

I was going to cancel my cis insurance for the capri in the 11th month and the broker was ok with that, in the end i left it running full 12 months.

When he said

Bought through Direct Line myself, and I've changed address three times and added the

missus to the policy as a learner driver, never with any hassles. Also used to use DL

when I was named driver on my mum's policy without problems.

If you agree the contract for 1700 and the credit agreement for the period then they also

have to stick to it! You can always phone up afterwards to amend details and that anyway.

With regard to cancellation, I seem to recall that you get charged something like a month's

penalty. But that's if you cancel the policy rather than change car.

Once you've ordered, the policy and that just pop through your door in a couple of days.

Daytripper....I am 31 and before I ordered my Octa I was gonna get a scooby, I had to cancel the order for the same reason avarage Quote

I called them today, they couldnt give me a quote due to my age.

As regards to direct line installments. You pay a deposit and then 10 monthly installments. it doesnt make clear whether or not the deposit covers the first 2 months or last 2 months, i take it is the first 2 months?

That Sucks!! The only other thing I can suggest is let a broaker do the running around for you, I thought being a middle man they were bound to be more expensive, but was pleasantly surprised.

If you get a chance give David Upshall a call on (01305) 268883. I've stayed with them for a few years now as they always come up trumps.

Goodluck. I hope you find something coz I picked mine up last week and my face aches from the permanent Grin.

Paying in direct debit on a monthly basis is just as opening a short term loan; you pay interest and payments are equaly spread over the months. Although in this case they do it in a 2+10 way. There are always clauses in your policy that if you cancel before the end of the term, you pay an 'administration' fee, which might equal to the month you are cancelling in (i.e. if you cancel 2.5 months into your policy, you only get back 9 months).

They won't increase your premium whilst you have signed to their terms, unless you committed fraud by not declaring anything (and reading your posts, it suggests you are not doing that). Honesty pays...

Q.

With Direct Line installments, you pay the deposit, then 10 installments, then nothing for

the last 2 months. So it can be quite a bit hit initially

Just out of interest, how much was a DL quote with you as the owner, etc.? You might

find it would be worth paying the extra if you can afford it as you'll get 2 years NCB at the

end of the first year...

With reference to the above, Insurance companies are becoming very wise to the fact that people register their cars in the name of their parents for cheaper insurance, Problem with that is:

They WILL know find out/know that your parent isnt the main driver of the car! If you have to make a liability claim they will SCREW you!

I had it happen to me with Eagle star back when I was 19. (So it's not like doing they've only just cottoned onto it!) I was very lucky to get paid out at all.

My car was stolen and they refused to pay out because it was taken from a nightclub it was parked outside. They threatened to prosecute me for false info, and said they would only pay up if I paid the difference on the policy price. So I ended up losing out on 1000 of my claim. car was worth 2000 they only paid out 1000 and took the other 1000 as a top up in the policy price.

I would def try to insure the car in your own name.
