That is amazing! You are 1 yr younger than me with an SP30 yet you were quoted 300 less than me - on a std car

How does that work then? You must live in a much nicer area of the country :)

Just got my renewal through the post, insurance is with esure.

Me 35 only driver, max ncb, no points, ok area, protected ncb, 12,500 miles pa. social and commuting,

Not sure what just happened...phoned Direct Line to notify them I've changed address

and somehow my last two installments will be about 250 quid. So my premium is up

by about 300 quid just through moving to another area.

Which means that my annual premium rate at the moment is now about

ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

:cussing: :cussing: :cussing:

Bloody Forum !!

Right

Dave,

I had written a nice long post for you but the forum decided to EAT IT when it said I wasn't logged in (which I was cos I wouldn't be able to post otherwise)

ARRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

My car is Garaged in Guildford and I do about 6000 miles pa. I think the excess is about

Responding to my own post...thinking about it, that's 300 quid until the policy runs out.

In September. Which means the premium has gone up by 900 quid a year, ie. about

There is a road in Heaton Mersey, Stockport where houses on one side have an 'M' post code while on the other side of the road they are 'SK'. Residents across the street from each other were seeing the scale of differences differences you are talking about.....and just to confuse the issue further they all paid council tax to SK!

umm, renewal came through, 998 with 550 excess...Modification of chip only at this point. Male 28 4yrs (1 pending little accident last year not my fault) Direct Line.

Contacted Adrian Flux, 630 with 250 excess. But they won't protect till direct line have completed the claim for 200 quid on my bumper that I have not even had repaired because it's less than my excess and nobody (6car bump) has admitted liability...

So now it looks like I'll have to cancel the claim or run a gauntlet for a few months unprotected...

Which is not going to happen as lady fate is breathing down my neck as it is!

ps Barclays direct now bounces you to another number, who get this (jon you lucky bast***) won't insure my car because of the chip! So Jon or Stuart, I'd love for you guys to contact barclays direct and ask em..because ti got a round the mulbery bush today trying to track down who is providing your cover.

Might be worth trying my bunch - Greenlight 01277 263030 - The guy I spoke to, Neil, runs a Golf IV with Upsolute chip and some other bits himself.

Nick,

Neil's a top bloke!

700 from Greenlight underwriter highway, who via flux would not take the car because of the chip...Greenlight despite 700 is better than flux at 630 and they can do one day track day fully comp's for 65 :D

Just have to resolve this dam accident to carry my 5years and get protected...or I'll have to go on a 6 month cycling plan...

Thanks for the number.

Greenlight: 700GBP PA, 300 excess, allowing for 220 chip mod and KW suspension.

Elephant.co.uk are quoting me

These insurance companies are so inconsistent as to defy belief. I was insured with elephant before my remap and they declined to continue covering me afterwards so I was forced to look elsewhere. Makes one very suspicious of their calculations - I think they just ask for what they think they can get away with. You can often get discounts by quoting some lower figure from another company - they always ask you "what's your best quote so far" knowing they only just have to beat that to be in pole position. It's very tempting to answer "50 quid" to that question to see if they come back with

Much like any sales business, it depends very much on their target demographic

that month! Which is why it pays to shop around... :D

  • 2 weeks later...

Just phoned Direct Line to tell them of my upcoming chip , they want an extra

I asked Elephant for a quote for the increase in premium after my remap, quoting around a 20% increase. They came back wanting roughly an extra

I havent , but my insurance runs out 3 days after I get the chip done , so I am gonna tell them when i call to renew , which will be a few weeks prior to that i guess (Direct Line)...the only thing is , I wont know how much power Im gonna get 'till its done , so what the hell do I say?...225?...217...232BHP????

Duncan , I had the same problem , I told them approx 225BHP , was then told it that up to 20% increase is one figure , then from 20% to 30% is the next , so my increase is based on a 20-30% increase in power , which would cover anything from 216-234BHP .

Cheers mellow , i think I will say approx 225 BHP and see what happens.

That system somehow doesn't sound like it would result in a reasonable insurance premium for a 150 BHP engine being tuned to 200-225 BHP - the latter a 50% increase in power...:(

Right well, I pick my car up today and will be paying 367 Quid!!! age 31 3 yrs NCB S35 postcode. NU direct via David Upshall insurance broakers....I've check the insurance cert and all seems okay apart from it saying 1,8 RST rather than VRS.

All usual low excess prices 125 quid, not bad eh...;)

NU Direct via David Upshall insurance brokers
Somehow that doesn't sound quite right. Are NU Direct getting confused about how they should be getting business? And I wonder if I can get a chipped 4X4 insured with them if I go through a broker rather than contact them direct again as I have been doing for the past few years (as one does with Direct insurers).

Leon, have you asked them if they will insure your car if you get it chipped or modify it in any way?

'Phoned Barclays Direct,

In a word "no" they won't insure me if I get it chipped? Not sure whats gonna happen next year after I get banned for speeding!!!

Not sure I wanna get it chipped this seems dangerous enough already, I think I got nabbed on Friday at Jct15 on the M1 doing about 120!! :oo

I'm just waiting to see if I get a NIP throught the post, B*****d was sitting on a bridge in the far left lane no operative on it, not sure if they can check speed automatically on mobile speed traps but if they can then I'm seriously worried..

BTW...NU not NU Direct??? doh!!
