You see i heard you shouldn't rinse before hand and should apply the SSF to a dry car and let it dwell

Johnny - are you looking to use snow foam as a complete wash, i.e. apply foam, let it soak, then powerwash off and that's you finished?

I use it merely as a first step, to then make it easier to wash the car with a washmitt and two bucket method, because the stubborn dirt and debris have been loosened and rinsed off.

Steve

Thats how I was going to use it as well.

Steve,

I've started to just use it as a pre wash now.

I think i was a bit naive thinking it would wash the car.

What i tend to do at the moment is,

Foam the car, let it dwell, foam it again, and use wash mitt on it and then power rinse off.

Maybe i should re-think.

Snow foam or other makes are there for a pre wash stage. To get rid of the larger debris before you get your 2 buckets out and wash your car. It just reduces the risk of inducing more damage to the paint work ;)

Try mixing a little with you favourite shampoo see what you think. Alot of people mix Snow foam with a little of other products. Once You have got your car up to a good standard with a few coats of wax/sealant the you will find that sometimes your car might only need a good Snow foaming and a rinse.

OK, I'm with you - I've done this a few times, when time is of the essence and the car badly needs a quick once over!

That two-stage foam process you mention, with the washmitt in addition, should work I would have thought. What I'm not sure of is the foam lance you're using - I'm not familiar with it so can't comment. But perhaps it's not really putting the foam on the car in a very good consistency?

Maybe take a quick snap next time you do the first foam, and let us see? As Mark said earlier, I'd apply the foam straight onto a dry car. Leave it for 3-5 minutes then hose or powerwash off.

HTH,

Steve

Good point Choppa, I hadn't considered what condition the paintwork was in, before starting :)

I've got a fair few coats of wax sitting on top of everything, so of course, when foam's applied it's much easier for it to soak in and take any dirt and debris with it. Everything just runs off...

Steve

I only started using the lance the week after the car was fully detailed, so paint was in good order as a base.

I'm just fussy.

I'll mix in some Citrus Wash 'n Gloss and see what the differences are.

Nice, would be good to see

Some pics would help too....

If you frequent on Detailing World then is a mix of Snow foam with Chemical Guys Maxi suds, a few people use it. I cant remember the ratio off the top of my head. Thats suppose to be nice thick foam which clings the body work for long time.

If you have a pump sprayer then with a mix of CG Citruswash and water 10/1 will make a good thick gel like pre wash soak which can be sprayed on the lower body panels to help removed thick crud.

Slightly OT, I just blagged a Karcher 499 from Ebay, it's a grade A refurb but comes with all the standard accesories and 12 month Warranty for £69.

Going to phone Auto Rae-Chem in a bit and order a foam lance and some snow foam, my last halfords cheapo pressure washer bit the dust and going back to a garden hose is a pita when you have 2 cars to clean at the weekend with alloys etc to wash (as the mrs insists I do her polo)

Arriving late ;) I have the Autobrite Lance and it fitted perfectly to my Karcher 399 PW. Also using the AB Supa Snow Foam with a bit of Chemical Guys Maxi Suds 2 and it works very well :)

Basically thats where i'm going wrong,

just using SSF etc on it's own just isn't doing the job.

Popping round to Halfords at lunch to see what shampoo they have that i can use.

Any receomendations ?

I used to use citrus wash n gloss on it's own, but wouldn't mind trying something else.

If it's Halfords then I'd go for the Meguires NXT Wash/Shampoo, the purple stuff it's good but a little pricey.

Cheers ears ! ;)

Or i could order something online from elsewhere..

Not going to be washing till the weekend again anyway.

I've got Meguiars Hyperwash and Shampoo Plus which are both great and come in U.S Gallon sizes for around £20 plus delivery. Try some online car cleaning specialists, cleanyourcar.co.uk are out of stock at the moment but try Googling Megs shampoo or the like.

I looking to try Duragloss 901, ive heard really good things about it. Great lubrication, ooo er miss's

Is Choppa in need of lubrication is he ? lol :D

Am going to have a peek on DW and see whats recommended on there too.

Thanks for your help guys. :)

Ive got Carlack 68 shampoo, P21S shampoo and CG Citus Wash n Gloss. Ive use Megs NXT and Gold Class. I would say my personal favourite is the Carlack 68, goes a long way and is very slick.

I liked CG Citrus, but just fancied a change.

I may give Gold Class a shot.

And a drop of Johnsons baby shampoo ;) does wonders

Nah, i'll give that a miss.

Although i do have loads of it in the house. :D
