Central locking feature

Featured Replies

OK - when you unlock the car with the remote but don't open one of the doors within 30 seconds (I think it is 30 - may be 1 minute) it relocks itself.

Can someone with an Octy confirm that opening the boot counts as opening the door, - i.e. if you open the boot it shouldn't relock.

Mine has just started relocking after I open the boot and it never used to. As a result when I shut the boot it triggers the alarm.

I would have noticed this before as it usually takes a minute or two to put the pushchair in the boot after opening boot and I wouldn't usually open the door first.

Can someone please check theirs and advise back please?

The dealer tried to tell me that's how it was supposed to work this morning and I am sure he is talking carp.

Mine stays unlocked after the boot has been opened (estate).

Does the boot light come on when you open the tailgate? could be a dodgy switch meaning the car doesn't know it's been opened.

That's interesting. Only one of my boot lights come on and that's intermittently. Could this be the cause?

If the boot switch isn't working properly the car won't know the boot has been opened, this means the car will re-lock and re-arm the alarm system. The interior monitoring will see you moving stuff about and go ballistic. I would get the switch checked out.

Got to be a mistake, does the boot lock itself if you close it quickly enough, ie before the end of the 30 secs?

That then leaves the possibility of locking your keys in your boot, which I thought was the whole point in the first place

The boot re-locks if you use the middle fob button but ONLY after you close the boot. I never use this feature for fear of locking my keys in so I always hit the unlock then the boot release to get into the boot, the car should stay unlocked this way.

That all goes out of the window if the boot switch is MIA and the car is none the wise you are fiddling around in the back

Unlocking car and NOT opening the door - mine re-locks after approx 30 secs

Unlocking Car and Opening Boot - left boot open for 1 min and it DOESN'T re-lock the doors. When boot closed boot it STILL didn't re-lock the doors

Both my boot lights are on.

Hope this helps.

Is the switch in the Lock? Does it look dry ? Might be worth Lubricating.

Thanks Gaff. What do you mean by 'Is the switch in the lock?'?

Funny this came up as it happened to me last night and confused me.

Unlocked car and opened boot - Car locked itself after brief period.

The switch for controlling the bootlights and to let Maxidot know boot is open etc,

maybe one of the techies might be able to point you in the direction of its location ;)

Good point re the Maxidot as I assume if there is a problem sensing whether the boot is open/shut the maxidot wouldn't know either...

Mine doesn't turn the interior lights on if I open the boot, just the boot light. I'm not sure, but I also think it locks back after 30 seconds if I don't open a door.

It sounds like a proximity switch malfunction to me :)

Did you check Maxidot?

Did you check Maxidot?

Yes and it doesn't indicate that the boot is open any more so it looks like the sensor isn't working and I assume that is the reason why the boot lights aren't working too.

I am trying to book it in at the dealers but are waiting for then to get back to me as I want to borrow a VRs TDi for the day so I can see what it's like on the dark side ;)

Sounds like a result then

I have a 2.0 TDi liftback whihc I have had since April 2007, the car has alway relocked even if I open the boot and hte Maxi dot has never hown hte boot as open. I'll get mine checked out too because I'm sick of setting the alarm off all the time.

I'm sure this is of no help whatsoever :-) but my old Bora used to do this. The only way it could be cured was for the remote locking to open all doors with one click rather than one click drivers door; two clicks all doors and boot.

You're right - no help whatsoever :(

I'm using the double click to unlock all the doors and the boot. The single click just opens the driver's door - this is how it's supposed to work.

What about disabling the double click and set it up as one click opens all, just to see if anything changes?

I cannot do that myself as I have the 07 version of maxidot with reduced functionality :(

Ah right.

  • 2 weeks later...

Turns out that I had a fault with some sensor on the locking mechanism.

New part ordered and the car goes back in next week to have it fitted.
