Insulted by Skoda

Featured Replies

Emailed Skoda Ireland to ask about a coil pack replacement.

Again like last year when I asked they said they were monitoring the

situation and could not replace something that had not failed. Despite

me telling them about the situation in the UK. I went back on this

mail explaining how unhappy I was with the situation and the fact

they sold so few rs's in Ireland is no excuse considering all the

vw's and audi's that have had their coilpacks fail. Then a couple

of internal emails later which I was copied on, they asked me to

talk to my dealer who will discuss it with them. What I found

insulting was that one of their warranty staff referred passed

on my email to someone else and the title of the subject was

'Crackpot for you'. Needless to say I was infuriated and

went back with a 'nasty' email demanding an apology. I also

rang my dealer who knows this person and said he would be

speaking with him about a replacement now. Don't these

morons realise it is cheaper in the long run to replace

these coil packs now and not have my car break down and

have to pay the cost of recovery. Then when you look for someone

to preempt this within warranty you are referred to as a

crackpot ! I won't be buying another Skoda that is for sure and they

have lost a sale now as I was gonna get the new RS. I will probably

keep my RS another year or two now at least.

W4nkers ! Did you get a formal apology in the end ?

Just send the email a few minutes ago. See below for the thread. I took out persons email addresses that I was dealing with. Very annoyed about this. My dealer is going to talk to them.

Hi xxx,

Thanks for your feedback.

I was reading down through the email thread and one of the Skoda staff has referred to me as a crackpot ?

Who the hell is this person ? All I am trying to do is ensure that I get warranty cover on a known issue. This is unprofessionalism at its higest.

If this person knew all the people who had coil pack failures he wouldnt be so quick to judge. The bloody cheek.

I can tell you one thing. I have absolutely no respect for Skoda now, and there is no way in hell I will ever deal with Skoda again.

I shall be informing for Skoda dealer on what happened and expect a full apology.

regards

We are aware of the press release by Volkswagen UK and rest assured that

both Eurauto Ltd. and Skoda-Auto in the Czech Republic are monitoring the

situation very carefully. We suggest you discuss this with your dealer

Newport Motors who in turn can discuss this with our technical service

department and ourselves in warranty.

Subject: RE: Coil Pack Failures; re Skoda Octavia

Thanks for your reply. However I am in disagreement.

I already discussed it with my dealer who agreed he would replace them if

there was an issue. The problem is this : Skoda UK have recognised that

the Bosch coil packs are prone to failure, did a recall and replaced them

with updated models. So Skoda UK have recognised there IS a problem and are

preempting people having coil packs going, even replacing all coil packs

free of charge. This is well documented on the forums in www.briskoda.net

Skoda Ireland are doing NOTHING. When I spoke to someone from Skoda

customer service last year, I was told you were monitoring the situation but

there has not been enough failures on RS's to warrant a recall. This is due

to the SMALL amount of RS's sold and nothing to do with reliability. VW's

and Audis made in 02 have had failures left, right and centre. So this is

no excuse. I would have thought Skoda Ireland would try to preempt the

situation like in the UK and not show such complacency. The advice I was

given by Skoda in the event of a failure was to drive to my nearest dealer.

This of course is also unacceptable as driving on 3 cylinders is dangerous

and can cause catalytic converted damage as the ecu will intermittently

activate the cylinder to see if it is working. Again people have reported

this happening. In this situation I would insist (even out of warranty as I

reported the problem in warranty) that Skoda pay for recovery of my car to

my dealer and replacement of the coil packs as well as a new cat.

Would it not be smarter for Skoda Ireland to authorise a coil pack

replacement now. I have already checked the cost. With labour the dealer

charges only 125 euros ?

If not, I can tell you with absolute certainty that I will never every buy

another Skoda again. And to be honest the RS is the best car I ever drove,

and I am looking forward to the replacement RS next year. I will be putting

this email up on Briskoda.net later today to demonstrate Skoda lack of

willingness in this matter.

I await your response

regards

Keith Flanagan

Subject: FW: Coil Pack Failures; re Skoda Octavia Keith,

We received your e-mail on the 14th May 2004.

If you believe your car is not running properly then we suggest you take

your car to your local Skoda dealer who will be able to diagnose if a part

is faulty and needs to be replaced. We cannot allow the replacement of parts

without the dealer establishing a manufacturing defect in a faulty part.

Your dealer will be able to comment on this.

ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS!

demand a formal, grovelling apology. if need be publicise it further. disgusting and unprofessional behaviour and completely inexcusable.

i can't understand how they can get away with doing a coilpack recall in the US and canada but leave the rest of the world out?!

I actually found out who the MD is of Euroautos and the major shareholders and have now sent a letter off to them this morning. Also copied my Skoda dealer.

  • Author

I have also emailed Euroauto to tell them I have contacted the MD and major shareholders of their company plus emailed this on briskoda. The same letter has also been sent to my Skoda dealer. Hopefully this will raise some hell.

good luck mate, im getting two of mine replaced under warranty next week.

Steve

It's terrible that they think they can act this way, as you say a full apology should be forthcoming.

My car just had it's 20k service yesterday and my dealer said they'd replaced all the coilpacks just in case, FOC of course.

Good luck Flanno, keep us posted how you get on.

Andy

That's pretty shabby treatment you've received Flanno and pretty stupid on customer services to make such comments in an email. My dealer contacted me last year to book me in to have them all replaced as a precaution. I was well impressed; that's why I travel 30 miles each way to get any work done when there are other Skoda dealerships much closer.

If nothing comes of it, i would send it to the skoda head office in cz...

Flanno,

PM me who your dealing with as I'd be interested to see if its the same BRICK WALL I've been taking to.

The RS is still quite rare in Ireland, lucks like it'll be even rarer now as they pi**ed off everyone who intends on buying one.

Probably because in the EU they cannot force a recall on non-safety grounds. Unlike the USA, who have much stonger laws like lemon laws

As for the e-mail no excuse for that. It is after all customer service, which part did they fail to understand. You pay their saleries! I have often served customers and thought what a ______ , but you never do somethinglike that!

Send them a

Flanno, sorry to hear about your problems. what a **** to forward on your mail like that. I was onto them last year about the coilpack issue and I was fobbed of with the "too few vRSss over here" to warrant changing them (even less ,if any 4X4 turbo petrols). I was planning to drive to Italy this year, what happens if coilpacks fail on the trip. The last thing I want to be worried about in a 1 year old car is grinding to a halt. Most of my dealings with Skoda Ireland so far have ended with a positive result. I wouldn't think you'll have any problems getting coilpacks now with that gob****e's attitude.Regards David

This is a very long shot but have you spoke to Skoda uk?

Try e-mailing [email protected] with your problem and see if they might have a word, after all if you lived in the UK they would sort it under warranty.

As for dodgy internal e-mails i had an issue with my Superb , they only sent me HALF the case note's and one even mention giving BROWNIE points? to a{top- 20 year's in the job} engineer who inspected my car, the fact he didnt know the difference between 50mm and 50cm wasnt even taken into consideration!! Like Doctor's i think they like to take the p*ss.

best of luck

Steve

Ok...the situation is now resolved.

I went out to my dealer today who contacted Skoda in Dublin who rang me this evening and apologised for the treatment I received. They informed me I would be receiving a formal apology in writing and as a goodwill gesture they would agree to replace the coil packs. The dealer now has 4 new coil packs on order. Expected to take a week or so for them to come in from the factory. So there you have it. A result.

Excellent news, although they could have saved themselves all that hassle and grovelling by changing the coilpacks in the first place

Ah well - you got the result you wanted :D

Chris

Isnt there a legal issue here ?? Im sure, IIRC companies are responsible for emails sent by thier employees that are derogatory, personally, I would be seeking legal advice about it, get a solicitors letter sent to them about the "crackpot" bit, you dont need to persue it, but I bet it scares them

Also, without a doubt, copies of ALL the emails would be sent to Skoda Cz for thier response (hard copies sent private and confidential to the MD of Skoda)
