Coilovers and Comfort?

Featured Replies

Right im gonna go and get me a set of Coilovers for the vRS now ive seen some on ebay made by Jamex just wondered if anyone has got these or know what they are like. Im also wondering what the ride comfort is like on Coilovers? .. looking to go about 50 - 60mm maybe a little more!.

Thx,

Mark

Ride comfort and coilovers do not go together, imho, but it will depend which coilovers you get and how adjustable the dampers are....

this is a problem lol, im torn between looks, comfort and handling :(

I believe some coilovers like the KW-3 allow you to adjust damping, etc so you can soften the ride up for everyday use. Bit of a fiddle though. Other option would be to go for some lowering springs and Koni FSD dampers which tighten up, the more loaded they are so you have a nice supple comforable ride until you push on?

Sure others will be along with their opinions :D

anyone else got anything to say?

i have heard on some set ups that anything above 40mm can be somewhat bum numbing but as numerous threads will show on here it really depends on how much u wanna throw at your coilovers in terms of budget. Do u have a limit? Look at vMaxx coilovers - well established in the euro scene and highly rated by the Golf guys. do some in depth research that's what i did on my blog Skoda Fabia vRS - Project Greedy which has some information on a few different variants. at the end of the day its personal choice as only you know what you use your car for every day and whether or not you mind the ride being slightly harder.

i really dont mind it being slightly harder its just i always have people in the car and dont want them moaning on all the time lol!. Is there anything else i will need if i get Coilovers?

some coilover kits require extra bolts for the rear when dropping over 40mm. do you have an independent VAG specialist you can talk to about this ? i am lucky in that we have one 4 minutes down the road and its invaluable to talk to someone in the know.

yer i heard about this, the v-Maxx kit comes with them at an extra cost of £39.99

i'm running kw's on mine,do a search of my posts for the pics,it is VERY low,the ride is slightly harder but much less crashy than the standard ones, the kw's are a quality item, and i can't recomend them enough:thumbup:

im always carefull, but other people that use my car aint .. i.e my mum :@ lol

i researched quite heavily into mine and without spending stupid money vMaxx offer good quality coilovers with good driveability after they are fitted. not heard any reports of sump guard issues i suppose it depends how you drive/where you drive and on what sort of roads you drive

hmm well i know that the fabia is based on a polo but i know that the vw golf mk4 require adjustable droplinks after a certain amount of drop about 40mm i think as it rubs the driveshafts so maybe its something similar on the fabia? i have thought about the fk suspension kits they look like the a good bridge between coilovers and springs as they are adjustable in mm still but only on the back i think

Hope it helps

Regards

Dan

i have the same kw's as lioburninnut (gary) and i agree they are great i am low as well but as you say others use your car i would not get coilovers.

some of my mates say i am to carefull in my car but you can never be to carefull expecialy when the sump sits so low (i will feel happier when iv got a sump gaurd sorted) bu the ride is not to bad when you consider how low it is.

maby you could go for eibachs and koni fsd's
