Fabia VRS vs Golf GTI Mk.4 vs Civic Type R

LOL, I had a feeling you'd know him after I posted the message. Bet he was in Halfrauds asking for a turbo for his car. :D

You hear him drive up and down Cas road in that Civic. In a 30 zone he thrashes the crap out of it and should simply be banned before he kills someone.

Nope he went through our andrews wall in a saxo years ago, good job we were in a good mood that week, or he'd be wearing some c30/50 grade concrete boots.

the mk1 Focus dash was part of Ford's new fangled new edge design wotsit, and that's still looking better than the Fabia dash at 10 years old.

:)

IMO the mk1 focus dash proves my point that something trying hard to be 'modern' at the time of its release will quickly become dated. It's very tacky imo.

use as many big words as you like but its basic and bland :)

that toyota dash is much much nicer :)

Clearly one man's 'sophisticated' is another one's 'bland':)

now you really are taking the p1ss, no way no how does any 10 year old ford dash look in any way even half decent,we take the p1ss out of my sister in laws 04 focus derv because it really is aweful, and next to mine even they agree it looks and feels cheap, its more like our suzuki swift dash in terms of quality, which on a 7k swift is acceptable, but on a 13k car is not.

Nope, totally serious, but I was talking about the looks of the dash. As much as I found myself liking the soft touch plastics of my brother's Octavia (from what I remember, it's been a while) I don't think I'd trade them for the bland, so called "styling"

Say what you will about VAG build, but my car isn't about to get it's 3rd gearbox, does know when a door's been opened, does has ABS that actually works and doesn't produce more smoke than a diesel locomotive ;):D

Why is it, whenever you say anything other than how great a Fabia (vRS in particular) is you always get someone jumping in with the old "Fabia bashing" boots? You don't get that if you don't like the Octavia, Superb or Roomster()

oi, my ABS is perfectly fine!!!

the only reason it doesn't work is because the ESP is knackered :D

the CTR EP3 interior didn't impress either. Sure, mounting the gear **** on the dash is nice from an ergonomic perspective but the lack of a central tunnel in the floor made it feel too open.

What do you mean? lack of a central tunnel?

The worst thing about the standard Fabia interior is the seats.....god what a stupid idea putting white cloth seats in a car. Not that I care any more as leather is so much nicer. :D

German dashboards = Plain and functional with a generally chunky solid feel to them

Japanese dashboard = Snazzier and full of buttons and lights yet cheap feeling (and looking) and you try making them go back together if you're unlucky enough to pull them apart.....

Bit of an ignorant statement saying they're cheap. I firmly believe my Dashboard in the Civic is a lot more tolerant and firmy... and doesn't rattle! Looks better, no flimsy buttons either. Although the material is easy scratchable.

Had my dashboard out of my car twice in the 10 months I've owned it, and it always goes back together with no rattles. So thats two things which I know you're wrong on.

And as for the third thing I know you're wrong on is, is the Japanese make solid dashboards which look much nicer than the majority of the VAG range. Take the new Civic's dashboard, the new Accords, and ANY Lexus.

Look at Seat dashboards, common rattle in all of them.

So I round it up, as a very biased and ignorant statement with little knowledge, guess work, and inexperience included :D

Talking of dashboards, ive probably dismantled every cars dashboard at some stage or another, and the jap dashboars always uses phillips head screws to bolt everything togother..... makes a nice simple design whihc wont rattle.

Sums up my last statement. An experienced view, with no guess work!

Hey leave chrispy alone :P

Personal Opinion about dashboards at the end of the day. Not all jap cars are the same at the end of the day. For example theres a big difference in quality between say a new accord, and say a Honda odessy.

The earlier civics had rover dashboards too which were gash:rofl:

The new mazdas are some of the best looking dashs ive seen, Rx8, mazda 2,3 although they are a little awkward to take apart they do go back together,

Same goes for german cars and well all car manufactures have produced a lemon at some stage!

Back to topic, Id go for the fabia out of the three, purely down to running costs :D

i wouldnt buy a toyota purely down to the fact that the dealers around here are a joke.

Our 56 reg Hilux was refused warrenty work because it had been used off road! For fook sake its a 4x4 what are you supposed to do with it.......... the school run!

Then they give you a yaris coursity car when you were told before buying that you would be given a hilux coursity car.

What use is a yaris when you have a ton of sand to move.....

Who wants to see a yaris with a pallet of block pavers on the roof

deleted,i can't be ar55ed to argue anymore,i'm off

he's already a member of there and focusowners :)

I've just sold my Golf Anni 180 Bhp Petrol, to buy this Furby VRS, and I must say, although gutted to sell the Golf, I'm really impressed with the little beast.

I only sold the Golf as I'm using my car as a company car, so needed something cheaper to run.

My Furby is re-mapped and I would say it would easily keep up with my old Golf, especially with real-world driving, for like overtaking etc...

They are the way forward!

Another thing to consider is how you like your performance served

The type r like all valvers has to be driven very hard to get at the performance and kept on the boil, the VRs performance while not as much is more accessible day to day

I used to drive a 16v Golf gti and one of the reasons for switching was the more relaxed delivery of the TDI over my 70 mile round trip to work

in the golf you had to drive it like a touring car to make it go and its fun when your in the mood but hard work

the type R is considerably faster than the golf but similar style of power delivery

If you want outright performance go for the type R no question (handling included)

Clio 182 might be worth a punt if you r into that kind of thing, idhave one if I didnt need the economy

Me Ill keep my VRs

I've been tempted by a w reg bmw 325i!

Au contraire mon capitan. I have had had the 'pleasure' of dismantling dashboards & interiors on the 2 Honda, 1 Toyota, 3 BMW, 3 Peugeot, 1 Ford, 1 Vauxhall, 1 Citroen and 1 Skoda that I have OWNED and on that basis I feel that I am fairly qualified to comment on such matters. My opinions are formed based on many hours of swearing and bleeding fingers.

Who wouldnt be?

kept seeing coupes on holiday and thinking how planted they looked:cool:

need your own oil tanker to fuel it compared to the furby but....

yeh, combined cycle of 31mpg or something similar. I've seen a nice silver one for a decent price but I'm not sure the added insurance, tax and fuel costs would entirely fit in with my plans of saving a few quid each month!

Actually, I lied, it's a 323 I've seen. So that'll only be 170bhp then.

Easily upped to 190-odd bhp by changing the intake manifold to that of a 325i....well, it was on the M52 engine anyway. It's just a 325i engine (with an alloy block) that doesn't breathe very well. Torquey but strangled.
