Cruise control won't rob any power from your engine - all it does is control the throttle for you. On the other hand, I've never seen the point of having cruise control unless you also have automatic transmission (which does waste power - but not all that much; the transmission fitted to the Octavia is pretty sophisticated). I wanted cruise control when I bought my car, but it wasn't available as an option then.

Sunroof: Hardly ever opened mine - why bother if the car's got climate control? On the other hand, it (apparently) stiffens up the roof panels and reduces the interior noise.

You don't have to pay extra for yellow paint. Opinions seem to be fairly strong here on whether or not this is a good thing :D I quite like it - it would have been my choice if it had been available (but Rally Red is an acceptable alternative)

Today is Setting Orange, the 12th day of Discord in the YOLD 3169

The Plus Pack is an option only available for the Classic model (ie the base Octavia), it adds front elec windows and other small things to the car. On the RS only Silver and Black are extra cost options , yellow and red are included in the

I had cruise control on my last car but one and I miss it badly on motorways. You would think our roads are too crowded to use it, but believe me any opportunity to rest a leg and let the car take over is worth it if you do a lot of miles. Some people will tell you it's uneconomical - I never found that to be the case - and common sense suggests to me that it can make more precise throttle adjustments than I can with my right foot. I'd go for cruise over parking sensors any time - although I have touched the back of my Octy on a few other things when parking - no damage done though.

I had cruise control on my Senator, and on an Audi some time before that. It is very useful for ensuring that you keep to speed limits (factored as necessary) and for long journeys. I would have it in preference to parking sensors any day. Some members have retrofitted cruise control, and APR will retrofit it for you or sell you the bits plus instructions. But as DIY fitting involves disconnecting the driver's airbag, that option is not for the fainthearted. :nono:

its suprising how little you can see out the back of an Octavia hatch!
Would have to agree with that , I intend to have them fitted at first service . As for the other options , personally I wouldn't bother with them , and as you already know Yellow is not extra , so what are you waiting for ?:drive:

The only options I wished I had gone for is Cruise control and parking sensors.

I find the RS tends to creep the wrong side of the ton on the motorway and plus the boot is very high and I find it hard to reverse.

According to my local dealer cruise will be sold as an add on by the end of the year, currently its only a factory fit item although a Golf after market one will fit, you just need a dealer who is friendly enough to enable it in the cars computer

As for parking sensors I would agree, I find the saloon a pig to reverse wheras the estate is a dodle

I have the cruise control on mine. Very useful especially on motorways as, as someone pointed out, your speed does creep (quite quickly) upwards.

Parking sensors, useful, especially if vertically challenged :D The rear of the car kicks up and can make parking a pain.

Black Magic is a lovely colour, can look almost purple in some lights. Also makes the car faster ;)

Sunroof? Personal preference

I got parking sensors and they are worth the money (although I got mine thrown in:thumbup: ) The slope of the hatch makes it difficult to judge where the end is and to see out of.

I had no interest in the sun roof as CC kind of makes it redundant although I suppose you can use it to get extra light into the cabin.

Cruise was something I would have got but the budget would only cover one other option. Seeing as I didn't like the Rally Red and the wife didn't like the Yellow, metallic paint it had to be.

Have Cruise Control and reversing sensors,

IMHO

Reversing sensors are excellent - would want it on future cars its extreemly useful - saved damage to my "YELLOW" RS when parking in hotel car park the other night was reversing parallel to another car when continuous bleep - I was most surprised (other car was much further back) when I got out and there was a black painted post 6" away from bumper not visable as it was at night. - saved at least the cost of the sensors - find them extreemly useful when reversing in my garage I now only need to watch the front clears the garage door pillar .

Re cruise - glad I have it and find it useful especially as a speed limiter as in the RS speed can creep very easily from 70->80->90->100 with a very light foot - although in the Octavia RHD version (rest in LHD) there's not really any where comfortable to rest the foot unfortunately only under the brake pedal (I do have bg feet but thats another story).

You pay dearly for "Yellow" especially on this board :blinker: and gets you noticed. The black magic is metalic black and looks ace - have seen one owner who has modified his black RS with a white spot effect looks great from a distance its sumpthing special ;)

Day tripper one way ticket yeh! I took me sooo long to find out but I found out...That a Black Magic RS is faster than the other colours.

I also have Parking Sensors and I find them invaluable but don't get complacent with then and take them for granted. After seeing Jons cruise control in action I must get round to fitting mine.

PS I actually like all the colours in the RS range, not to keen on lesser blue cars though. :D

Lesser

Smaller in amount, value , or importance, especially in a comparison between two things. ;)

Des,

"Less is more!"

Less power, more weight, more windows, more money, more van-like, more agricultural, more onic (sorry last one slipped out, ran out of mores :) )

Oh yes, less really is so much more :D

have to agree, Cruise is excellent, especially as a speed limiter through mway roadworks etc. View out of back of RS is crap so parking sensors are very valuable. Got both thrown in by dealer but had to pay for my Black magic paint IIRC.

I have to agree that Cruise Control is a must on the motorway.

My WRC did not come with it but a quick call to Trentam in Hull (SEAT Dealer) gave a good result.

The only extra I had was the sunroof - it is nice to get fresh air into the car and it also lets more light in. However this is only any good at lowish speeds as the noise is too much.

Am thinking about the parking sensors as it is true that you cannot see much out the back. But I haven't hit anything yet.

Cruise would be useful for roadworks and 30 zones but can't really see the need unless you do a lot of motorway driving, as other people have mentioned it's really easy to be suddenly doing 90 +

Parking sensors are a Godsend. The Octavia is bad enough for rear vision without the spoiler. The vRS makes parking sensors practically mandatory. They've saved me more than a couple of scrapes and crunches.

Aren't parking sensors available "dealer-fit"? I seem to remember them appearing in the accessories catalogue for the Octavia.

If they are then they're a higher priority, for me, than a chip.

Reverse park sensors are a great addition the only problem I have is as soon as the beeping/range finder noise starts I tend to stop reversing. This means that when I get out of my RS I am the same distance from the car/object I would have been if I didn't have the parking aid. So what I tend to do now is reverse until the beeping noise is a continuous and very loud noise which means I am a Nats wing away from the object which is what you are suppose to do if I am correct!??!

Hi llblake,

Yes that's correct - reversing sensors are extremely useful once you get experience of what the beeping lengths mean.

I had them fitted to my current car (Vectra CDX Estate) & they have proved invaluable - I have also ordered them with my new L&K Estate, due any day now!

Not sure with tthe Octavia, but the outer sensors on the Vectra ar fittted right on the corner, so sometimes alert when you are reversing parralel to a vehicle without danger oif hittting it!

But, like I say, you get used to how they work after a while!

Parking sensors can be retro-fitted. The sensors go into the black rubbing strip as opposed to having the bumper cut-outs. Sensors in cut-outs are body coloured.

Either looks better than the sensors fitted to Beemers. The ones on Jags or Porkers look terrible.......IMHO.

Personally I dont need them being a woman, on our car they were fitted for my husband as men in general cannot judge 6" , the distance when the warning note is continuously on.

;)

:D

OOh - Harsh but fair!!

A first post straight to the jugular! Meanwhile Mr vRS - who is better known to us all under a different nom-de-plume - is being strangely silent... redface.gif
