It's really convenient - they should come like this off the factory, no reason they shouldn't, apart perhaps from inter-group politics?

Mine was 'fixed' by the dealer before I picked it up. I was surpised when he mentioned that he'd done it - I never asked for it, although I was planning to do it. He said they 'fix' all cars before they're delivered, and owners are told about the 'undocumented' feature. Makes sense to me.

I have just completed this modification.

I can honestly say it is the cheapest and quickest car modification I have ever done.

The thing is that because it doesn't have an On/Off label on it I always forget to use it!

Postage was cheap but the part wasn't. Had to buy whole Climatronic unit from Golf 5. Paid arround 35 pounds plus 10 pounds postage. It came from UK. Anyway, it wasn't so bad. I wanted the whole unit so I've changed the plastic button to OFF button and put those chrome rings from new unit as well. Didn't want to swap whole unit because of blue ilumination.

I live in Greece and it was the local dealer. He also suggested that I don't buy the factory option cruise control which was 350 euros because he could fit it for me for free, also saving me the several weeks of waiting involved in custom orders. Can't argue with that!

BTW, the optional equipment pricing is outrageous! the difference in price between the non-cruise control stalk and the cruise control stalk as spare parts is like 15 euros, yet they have the nerve to charge 350 for it as a factory option! He told me the spare part was about 90 euros, so it wasn't much of a freebie and he threw in a non-OEM parking sensor as well. Doesn't integrate with the radio, but works well nonetheless.

I didn't ask him, but I'd hazard a guess and say he read it somewhere, probably here. It could be though that the Greek Skoda importer send a memo or something about this, they're pretty aggressive in sales, and if they can fix a little thing like that for free to improve customer satisfaction, they'd let the dealers know about it. Heck, they do it for the cruise control which costs real money!

What impressed me is that they managed to convince Skoda to keep producing the Mk I RS for the greek market (which was and still is a great success), albeit by another name. Its called the Octavia GT and it is being sold for a bit less than the Octavia 5 1.6 FSI in Elegance spec, so it is quite a bargain, if you're happy with the Mk I. I know I was tempted, but bought the Mk II in the and. As far as I know, the only difference with the original RS is the lack of leather seats and the fact that the new one is advertised as "tuned by skoda motorsport", which apparently includes upgraded K/W sports suspension and a remap from 180 -> 193 bhp.

Glad this has come up i removed the button and found there was no tab behind it but it doesnt switch off the fan can anyone help .

I removed the button on my 06 octy mk2 vrs and the tab was not there but the button does not switch the fan on/off it does nothing .

Anybody got any ideas

Try to swap the button with the other one that is working, from the kn0b on the left or right side, just to check if it will start switching it off (with engine running)

Just the top semi circle cover.

Just done this at the same time as fitting LED sidelights. Feel like a real modder now
