Rad Fan Switch (again!)

Featured Replies

When I bought my car about 9 months ago I was noticing a small leak at the front of the car when I came out in the morning kindly the good people on here said it would probably be the rad fan switch I took it back and it was and got it changed on warranty, since then the coolant level has stayed constant and all was well.

This past week or so the same damp patch has returned!!!

I have checked the coolant level and it has dropped again so it looks like it is deff the same problem.

Am I right in thinking the reason the switch needs replacing is because of the seal wearing out around it? If so surley it can't wear out in under 9 months.

I will be getting it booked into the garage to get it checked out but was just wondering how much the part is and how big a job is it to get a rough idea of the cost as it is no longer under warranty.

If it's the same offending part, it should be changed under warranty. Replaced parts and the labour to instaill them usually carry a 12 month warranty regardless of the warranty you got with the car.

True maybe I should go and enquire there is nothing to loose.

To be honest if it wasn't going to be that expensive to fix I would rather get my own garage to do it as I had a few problems with my car at first so they don't fill me with confidence.

could be an unfortunate coincidence, or could be a separate fault, can you give it a good eyeballing to??

I think that generally you will find that if you still have say 6 months left on the warranty, and some work is carried out to replace a failed part, then you will only get the remainder of your warranty out of this repair - if it lasts only another few months then you will be left to fund the repair( remember this repair was funded by your warranty not you) - unless your dealer has a conscience! But as has been said it might be something else, or the job was bodged to get the car to the end of its warranty - but that would have been a bit risky for your dealer to do. Maybe change garage if your local one is willing to work on these cars.

I asked and they they dont have a 12 month guarantee on the work carried with the garage that does it for them but they will take it in and have a look and if it is the same problem they will seewhat they can do and try and talk them round but if its something else they will charge.

Now what odds would I get on it been something else?

This garage don't half wind me up they rung me to say that they have found the leak and it requires a seal which they have ordered.

When I asked if it was the same part as last time and if it would be covered under guarantee etc he said he didn't know aghhhh

I really wanted to know the cost before I agreed to it and suppose should have stood firm but as they are not the people that do the work they are just a sale outlet I kind of get why he doesn't know.

It doesn't sound to painful though but we will see what happens tomorrow.

Rant over!!
