had great fun going down to LeMans in my dads S60 D5 really annoyed a lot of people and never got over taken on the way there or back! there a lot quicker than people realise.

Biggest surprise has to be a Series2 Elise.

But for all the wrong reasons, i was hugely dissapointed when i drove one, just didn't feel that quick at all. :(

One of the reasons why i bought a VX220, was seriously gutted when i test drove one, felt under powered, K series needed serious thrashing to get it moving.

one car that did suprise me an old megane 2.0 RXE didnt leave him as quickerly behind as i would of hoped:eek:

1990 Honda engined Rover 216, newer shape (not the BL wedge) I couldn't believe it had a twin cam 16v engine with 130 bhp, we were doing 60 mpg around tight corners in Derbyshire when a MK1 XR2 passed us on the wrong side of the road at around 80 mph! Needless to say I bought one as soon as I found a good one!

Mk1 XR2 totally and utterly pasted by a MG Maestro Turbo! Oh well can't win them all!

Battered old chavved up corsa, looked as plain as any other, including 5 ***** on board. I was behind it going onto the motorway in my stage 2 octavia 2 vrs, i went to pass it, his turbo spooled, his tyres spun, and he went further in front of me. I didnt give up until i finally passed him at 160, but he had slowed down :(

I was gutted, owned, and impressed all at once.

Bloody hell!!! Fantastic Q car. Imagine the fun you could have in that (well, if it handled as well)

I used to have a 2.0 16v one and they used to handle alright with the right kit on. I sold it for peanuts though :(

Bloke at work has a Toyota Starlet GT

It is the most awful and sh1te car ever, it looks boring, it's all broken inside, things are falling off it and it has an exhaust like a baked bean can. It brakes your bones on even smooth roads, and I really had to laugh at this bloke for owning such a peice of sh1te

......and then he took me out in it. Quite possibly the fastest car I have ever been in, and that includes a tuned skyline!

I followed him out of work once, and I thought this isn't so bad, I can keep up. Then I heard the turbo spin up and I never saw him again!!!

these are rapid little tw**s, I think they r 1.3 turbo's but r very fast

There's loads of them over here, most seem to be fitted with silly loud dump valves :D

When I was 17('87) a neighbour who was about 19 with plenty of money had a new Fiat Strada Abarth proper rally seats in it; now that was quick!! Fantastically quick! He was a bit of a kn*b though or was I just jealous??

Here's 1 at the North east motor show last summer

Renault 5 Turbo (Mk 1 ? - was so long ago)

He pulled out to overtake a guy ( going uphill).

Was like letting loose a stretched elastic band

back to the original question pulled away from the light tuther day parallel to fiesta st, needless to say i got maybee 1 to 2 car lengths in front of him. the only other thing is a 306 gti i overtook, he saw it was an estate passing and tryed hoofing it to catch, but didn't. :)

They're usually badged as a Glanza here.

Whoo hoo, I had one of these. A 130 TC with silly cams, tweaked Carbs n’ filters, polished inlet do dads and a noisy exhaust. Loved it to little bits (which was lucky as it tended to rust into little bits) as you say, great seats, with a crotch hole in them as standard for a silly harness. Oh and it had a teeny LED clock that also worked as a stopwatch for your trackday outings.

Just a bit of a fun thread!

Cars you've had a play with on the roads that have really suprised you. I'll go first-

106 gti, only gained like 5-6 car length in front of it from 20 to just under triple figures.

Golf GT (1.4 turbo 170bhp), this guy must of had some tuning as it was pretty much identical until with mine until 90ish.

Tell me yours!

P.S all done on a private road.

i had a play with a gti last night, rolling start from lights only gained 2 cars lengths then that was it stuck like that all the way to crazy speeds!

Fiesta ST - It pulled pretty evenly with me all the way to 130mph. I couldn't believe it! Although whenever we got to a big long hill I just ate him up. Very impressive car.

Some old crappy yellow astra (I dont know anything about vauxhalls, but guessing 2l twin cam)- I initially dismissed it as a chav wagon, then realised we were doing about 120. Slowed down to have a look, we both had big grins, then went for a v-max run! The guy had some balls, I'd never go that fast in an old wagon like that!

It's nice having a car that can haul at a solid 140mph, without losing its composure.

(All of the above mentioned speeds were done on the autobahn, obviously)

Brother's Porsche 911(996) Turbo.

I'd had a spin in a n/a one previously and was fairly unimpressed. This thing genuinely frightened me.

So,suppose it did 'surprise' me finding out these things are the real deal

Was on a bit of 2 lane A-road a few months back late at night with an 07 reg Megane coupe/convertible that really didn't want to be overtaken, surprised me how quick it was, apparently they have a 150bhp 2 litre turbo engine, took me bl**dy ages to finally get past it!

Another one that surprised me was my mates Omega MV6, went up against it at the Ring. They're supposed to be about 210bhp but I thought we'd be quite evenly matched as it's so big and heavy. Well he constantly gained on me all round the Ring and by the final straight he was a speck in the distance :)

the old omegas are bloody quick motors! was always amazed how quick my brothers old one was! and so bloody comfortable aswell! he misses it every now and then when he has to do long haul drives.

Octy vRS combi, suprised me how good it was.

Now you have bear with me on this one

wait for it

Skoda Roomster ( there I said it ! )

We are not talking big power but if you look past the "odd" styling you will find one of the best handling small cars on the market today. This car in stock form handles very well but with a few carefully chosen suspension mods you will be able to show a clean set of heels to many so called "fast" cars.

Untill recently I worked in the VAG tuning industry and got to drive many high end Audis

and Vw cars also tuned and "engine" conversion cars, none of these put a smile on my face like a fellow Briskodians Vroomster.
