Non Octy Question (Golf Mk4 1.4)

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I know this is on the wrong forum but I thought I'd as you knowledgeable bunch. And the fact the Mk1 Octy shares alot of engines and parts with the Golf 4.

My brother has a 2001 Golf 1.4, and it seems to be loosing coolant.

There is no water in the oil, and as far as I can see there is no leaks.

One thing I have noticed is there is only a very small trickle of coolant going back into the coolant expansion tank, not the same kind of flow as I get in my Octy.

Any ideas what it could be? Also there is a knocking noise seemingly coming from the top of the engine.

Cheers in advance.

Craig:)

water pump common on the 1.4 i had mine go at 14000miles just over a year old

most likely water pump, went on my 1.6 mk4.

Waterpump... if Cambelt is changed at main dealer every 4 yrs / 60K as per recommendation this should of been changed together with cambelt as one large job.

Would suggest you check if/when this work was done as there may be some warranty on it.
