Could be worse. Could only be a year away :D

2 years for new Fabia, +1 year for vRS version...PLUS diesels keep their price better, anyway... :D

Don't worry about it, he's a BMW owner, they know nothing about cars ;)

:D

Who cares anyway.

It's only money ;)

When the car dies i'll throw it away & buy another. Vaules are irrelevant :)

Re test drives.

My friendly dealer

You could always split the difference and find a 130TDi Octy. Goes like stink as standard (didn't seem much less pull than the vRS Octy I'd just got out of), and a quick trip to Jabba gets 180-190 bhp. Think thats called having your cake & eating it? (OK, so it looks a bit dull, doesn't hug the road as tightly, has less supportive seats, but would be much more of a 'Q' car)...

Now why didn't I think of that

Stupid is as stupid does...

Hi Forrest

Evenin' Spanker :wavey:

Pros..

50mpg + vs 30-35mpg - Very Handy

As quick in real life driving - Yes it is!

Pros..

cons

no 180bhp power - Flat Torque Curve more important in real life

If they put the 1.8T engine in the Furby' date=' i'll b first in line!!!

Haven't you just contradicted your own argument there? ;)

Before I got my Furby, I test drove a Golf GTi (180 hp version) and thought it was very nice to drive. Just out of interest, I test drove the GT TDi (130 hp) as well. Took it for a nice long drive and thought the engine felt *SO* much faster than the 180's. I couldn't believe it!

Anyway, didn't end up buying it, fortunately. Also test drove a 2nd hand Leon Cupra R which, obviously, felt a damn sight faster than either of them. For some reason, the 180 feels as flat as a f@rt compared to the other two...

If luggage space isn't a priority, then what's wrong with a Fabia? It's got a bloody good engine, fit and finish are the same, it's a newer model etc. If space IS important, then there's no question that the Octy's the one to go for. In real world terms, they're both about as fast as each other...it all depends on priorities...

That'd be because of the higher torque from the diesel engine. However, as a result it's a lot more peaky than the 1.8T, so doesn't rev as nicely.

I know which one I'd rather have a crash in.......

HELP! - I'm generally pretty stupid so wouldn't be surprised if this is just me but how the hell do you start a new thread on the forum? Looking all over the place for "Start Thread" or "Post new thread" but nothing! Its telling me I "may" post new threads but not how I go about this!

go to the forum where you want to start the thread "the lounge" "briskoda general" etc. then click on the "new thread" icon, it is located above the thread list.

The Furby...would be one more off the road... ;)

Very amusing

It really doesn't matter which one you crash in - they're both Euro NCAP 4 for safety. I had a 60MPH crash in a Fiat Punto (Euro NCAP 4) and the impact didn't intrude into the cabin at all, for chrissakes.

If anything, the Fabia may be a little safer, since testing guidelines have become more stringent since the Octavia came out. :D:finger:

Anyway -

Q: how many Octavia's does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: None. They're all too busy being taxis.

Rob, I thought you also have a Smart car?

Rob, I thought you also have a Smart car?

I do.

But yeah, seriously, mumphie makes a good point on safety...wouldn't say either would be significantly worse than the other in a crash, and we know that in a roll-over the Fabia is very strong... :D

Q: How any Fabia vRS owners does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: None - they're all too tight to buy new lightbulbs, preferring to make do with a low-powered torch, insisting that in the real world it's as good at lighting a room as a proper lightbulb... :P

Note to self: Must try not to get dragged into Fabia vs Octavia discussions.

Don't think so...

Go check out the Euro NCAP site. The Octy was tested in Model Year 2001, the Fabia in MY 2000.

But we won't let the facts get in the way of your desperate attempts to justify your purchase of an inferior car, will we ;)

Too late!

Q: How many Octavia owners does it take to change a lightbulb?

A: None. When the Octavia first came out, the only form of illumination was gaslight, fed from the mains gas supplies. This doesn't require changing.

Sorry for backing up Freakcrab and making you look even more wrong ;)

Q, how many Fabia owners does it take to change a lightbulb.

A. None, they're too thick to do it themselves so they beg an Octy owner to do it for them.

;)

I'm glad that prompted some debate.
