I don't really see the point of asking for opinions.

All you will get from any given person is the reasons whay each particular car suits them, not you.

eg, in my case the Furby is no good to me as i dont want to drive a diesel as a personal car, and it's too small.

Decide what you need or want then act accordingly.

The suspension, power and alloys can be sorted for relatively little outlay ;)

whatever floats yer boat really, im totally happy with my car, the 600+ miles to the tank helps too :)

Insurance might be cheaper, but how much are you going to lose changing from the octy to the furby?

Personally I'd pick the octy vrs over the fabia vrs any day.....

Daz,

Seems to me like one of those decisions that you think makes sense but your heart's not in it so you're trying to persuade yourself that it's the right thing to do.

Why don't you see if you can have another play in a Fabia RS and see if it makes things any clearer ?

Agree with MH, had a non vRS Octy, driven both, it boiled down to what I wanted from the car given , personal sitaution/ other factors.

My heart would have liked the Octy vRS, but everything else said Furby. I don't regret the decision to buy the Furby, it does what I want from a car. I dont envy the vRS Oct owners, cause it's what they wanted and suits them.

GOOD LUCK in you decision.

Steve

Be like me and SWMBO - have one of each!!!

I had a very similar quandary, currently have a Leon Cupra and am swapping for a Fabia vRS. It wasn't an easy decision but for once I saw sense, as you say in the real world the Fabia is just as quick as the Leon/Octy and at the end of the day there is always someone whose driving a quicker car than you so you may as well at least be smug in the knowledge that your getting 50+MPG. Theres also the size but then unless you've got 2 kids and a dog does that really matter.

It does completely depend on what you want from a car. I didn't need the extra space or size of an Octy at this point in time, so the smaller car is perfect for me. As Colin said earlier, the wheels, suspensioon and power can all be upgraded for relatively little cost and do improve things by a huge amount.

IMO it boils down to (a) size and (B) diesel vs petrol

Both cracking cars, I've had both

I think the reason I like the Furby that bit more is it takes that "Skoda thing" just that bit further - not only is it a fast Skoda, but its a "shopping car" and a diesel :D People expect the Octy to be quick, but not the Furby

I personally prefer the Furby, no surprises there. I think it has more of a Q-car thing going than the Octavia, everybody KNOWS the Octavia's are quick as mobtob says, but nobody EVER expects a Fabia to be quick. You should have seen the face on my mate (ex Fiat Coupe owner) when I gave him a lift into town in the Fabia vRS yesterday - a mixture of surprise and scaredness

At the end of the day they are both good cars, but the Fabia seems more or less as quick in real life conditions (i.e. mostly below 100 mph). At really high speeds the Octavia will likely have the edge, and the Furby is definitely more economical whether you Octy RS owners want to admit it or not :D - I get 36.5 MPG average, and lets just say I drive FAST. I can guarantee that if I had an Octavia it would be down well into the low 20's if I was driving it :D

I don't really need the rear seat space.. I very rarely have any rear seat passengers.. I'll also not really miss the boot space as again very rarely fill it..

The car was in at the dealers again yesterday getting a wheel bearing, washer bottle and stereo system sorted, 2/3 fixed but the Fabia loan car

1.4MPi was quieter than my Octy.. wind noise around the door pillars ( and around the rear doors ) also wind noise around the scuttle area...

I like driving the fabia I think it is more nimble than my Octy..

Also the insurance is a massive + point for the Fabia as even though the accident was not my fault and my no claims bonus is unaffected it still loads my premium.. With that and my Leon Cupra getting stolen a couple of years ago.. Insurance is getting expensive... So

Dazz,

Depends on the dealer I guess and what sort of relationship you have with them. I'm pretty sure my dealer would just give me the keys and let me get on with it, that's what happened with the Octy.

Good luck.

Considered an Octy for quite a while and went for the Fabia, partly because I didnt need a bigger car and mainly because the Fabia is considerably cheaper to insure and run and in real world acceleration terms they are not that far apart.

I have actually driven an Octy vRs quite a bit (a pool car at work) and I know the Fab was right for me in my case.

If you need a larger car and dont mind higher running costs then stick with the Octy.

btw dont kid yourself you will get 50mpg all the time unless you drive like a granny - its too tempting to put your foot down!

The main thing is you can drive them hard all the time and still getget 38+mpg

An SDI like mine could be an option ;)

Don't forget that with the new Octavia coming out (and seeming to be getting decent reviews), the value of the old Octy will plummet, especially when they bring out the new vRS...

Using that (flawed) logic, you could also push for a better deal on a new Octavia.

2 sides to every coin ;)

Ah the new "real" vRS .....in the year 2005 or 2006 , if it happens at all ........I doubt it will have any effect on the current value of the Octy vRS, until then , ...........obviously written by a Fabia owner ... ;)

I remember people saying that about the Original Cossie ,

have you seen the price of the 3 door lately :D

There is only ONE real RS, all others are and will be built off the back of it's success.

That must be a Skoda i missed ? Ahh a fabia owner i see ;)

Don't worry about it, he's a BMW owner, they know nothing about cars ;)

You could always split the difference and find a 130TDi Octy. Goes like stink as standard (didn't seem much less pull than the vRS Octy I'd just got out of), and a quick trip to Jabba gets 180-190 bhp. Think thats called having your cake & eating it? (OK, so it looks a bit dull, doesn't hug the road as tightly, has less supportive seats, but would be much more of a 'Q' car)...

HA HA HA HA! :rofl::D

Octavia prices WILL plummet. Think of Golf GTi rather than Cossy...

And yes, I'm a Fabia owner...but I'd say the same thing if I owned an Octy...but of course, if I'd known they were releasing a new Octy so soon after I'd bought one, I wouldn't BE an Octy owner...if you see what I mean...

Sorry Furby owners, but theres an update coming for your cars too within 2 years..

Not laughing so much now, are you ;)
