Two Octy vRSs with same locking remotes

Featured Replies

I met up with a friend today who also owns an Octavia vRS (His is an 02 plate and mine a 53 plate). Now I have worked in car audio and security for nearly 10 years now so I find the following as no suprise....

We parked both cars within about 5 yards of eachother. I went to lock mine and it also locked his too. We tried unlock and the same happened to both cars. We then tried his remote locking keys and lo and behold, his set locked and unlocked mine !!!

So perhaps when you are next parked next to another Skoda, try your remote locking key !

We tried the actual 'key' and it wouldn't start either car. So obviously just a case of extreme coincidence that our 'lock/unlock' codes are the same !!

I think next Sunday there may be a large number of Skodas in one place - perhaps we can experiment !

One of my spare keys will remotely unlock and lock both Fabia's, but only 1 key out of 4! Work that one out?????

Great, and now it's on the forum any idiot will be able to try it

Yeah - I don't like the sound of this! Surely it can't be beyond the wit of man to make each unique. I mean in three hours we have two people who have seen this - how common is it?

I was on the understanding that the skoda fobs were "rolling codes" that changed every time pressed.

Will nip and look at my handbook.....(furbie)

P13 of said handbook....

General notes

The frequency coding of the remote control and the receiver means that it is not possible to use the remote control of another cars.

I am seriously worried that Skoda would allow codes to be used more than once. Would they make 2 keys the same for 2 different cars??, I doubt it, but I may be wrong. This really does unease me, especially when the Octy does not come with an alarm as standard either.

There is only a finite number of codes (and Key designs) that can be used, so it is likely that over the course of the last 5 or so years there will be more than one car with the same fob (or key) code as yours or mine. The only thing is that it may be in China, Brazil, or Dunstable. Until you find out you will never know. Also as there is the immobilizer code, remote fob code and the key shape, the likleyhood of you coming into another VAG owner with the same combination is extremley unlikley.

I've read about this on other forums for other VAG cars...

Now the question is would it work with an Audi, VW, Seat and Skoda...perhaps somthing for the Top Gear team to try...

By a strange co-incedence, i'm on the TopGear site right now..

Colin, any objections to me e-mailing them with a pointer in the direction of Briskoda if they decide to follow it up ?

None at all...so long as they don't pick on us.

Done ;)

Let them pick on us.

Actually i remember Clarkson's reply to a guy in the TG audience who said he drove an Octy RS..

"That's a good car"

Clarkson also said in the Sunday Times when testing the VRS Estate that "the handling is the best balance between comfort and performance of any car in the VW Group" (or something very similar). He was very impressed with everything except the seat colour, an opinion I share with since an accident with a bottle of coke

On the key front, SWMBO had a Golf and apart from the VW/Skoda badge the keys were identical although hers wouldn't work on my Octy or vice versa. She now has a Passat and that has the extra boot opening button and doesn't work on the Skoda either but not surprinsing really so I have no idea why I'm rambling on like this  .
