Clutterbuckbuck did me proud ..

Featured Replies

Well i got the call.

Sod's law meant that my Uncle pipped Nan to the post and decided enough was enough and didn't want to play anymore. He was 46 :(

Clutterbuck got us to Sutton and back without a glitch ... ran sweet as a nut and ate up the M25 (WooooHoooo)

So well in fact ... i got a Speeding Ticket (well at least the flash, ticket to follow i presume) but is was in a hurry ikwim.

So here's to Skoda's acheiving warp speed and getting flashed in the process :D:thumbup:

Challenge the ticket - "100mph in a Skoda? Your equipment must be faulty"

I think the M25 has those annoying variable speed limit cameras - but often the cars are going nowhere, which I gather is what tends to kill off the 1.3 Skodas in the summer.

My Skoda hasn't broken down yet in the year and nearly a month I've had it. Hoping it's a trend to be continued but I guess my luck is going to run out some time :D I've done a good few 218 mile journeys as the gf lives in South Wales :) so I don't hesitate to do long journeys (although my wheel bearing needs replacing at the moment - a greasy job.)

Hi

Yep variable speed and weird limits 60 -> 30 with a minutes warning then BOOM FLASH lol ... Was going through Cheam/Kingston (A3 way) i THINK ... we got lost :o and there were camera signs everywhere. Dread to think what i'll get ... looks like £60 +3/6 points :eek:

Do you think a basket of muffins would help ?!?!?

*Mutter* *Mutter* *Grumble*

My father with rather a dry sense of humour, reckons i should frame it !

When you say your uncle decided to beat your nan to it do you mean in a fatal way?

If so I think if you end up in court for any reason all you can do is put your hands up say yes, i did it and my reasoning was a relative was dying.

Hopefully the judge will then give you the minimum possible or at least a light sentence.

i hate those variable speed limits was going up to derby one day with 2 people i didnt really get along with and a car full of camping gear and it was telling me to be doing 70 -> 50 -> 60 -> 40 -> 70 -> 50 at every sign i went past, already had 3 points though so i coukdnt risk speeding, everyone around me was getting arsey though!

Apparently they have to leave one minute between the displayed limit changing and the camera taking a picture.

That is ineed the case, the limit is enforced after 1 minute has elapsed. Things have changed on the M25 though. Previously the cameras were inactive when the variable limit was off, but now this is no longer the case. The cameras are now digital, and are set at a random speed above approx 80MPH when the limit is off.

Sorry to hear about your uncle - from your previous posting I can tell that you weren't unprepared but it hurts anyway.

As cheezemonkhai says, it's not impossible that circumstances could influence a final court ruling. Especially if the speed was the only thing and no signs of anything else that could be deemed as careless.

A bit off topic, but going up the A14 to see HWMBO (Luke), there is a load of AVERAGE speed checks... Went into it at 75... Had to do 30 all the way out....

I have recently invested in a Talex lite GPS speed camera detector from Aldi. It cost £60 but was the best £60 i have ever spent. It gives the speed of your car and it is interesting to note that the speedo on my car seems to read 4-5mph more.

If you got it recently it should have been a Novus GPS Rider which can run off it's own internal battery. Talex Lite would be old stock. GPS rider also comes with USB cable to update it. You may be aware of the Talex Vs. Novus database thread on this forum?

Swedish ... Thanks .. yep, it still hurts though this took us by shock. We have been expecting Nan and got a call about Bob having a stroke and arresting twice. Was rather out of the blue.

He is being planted on Thurs so it's back to Sutton (though not a mad dash and night drive this time) so looking at the "talex" and"novus" i think it might be a sound investment.

The height of stupidity was coming out of Cheam (think) and have a small dual carriage way .. it had two temp speed signs (one on each lane) the right was a 30 and the left was a 40. Both were parallel to each other ?!?! By this time i was *****ed off and felt like going down the middle and doing 35 :banghead:

Bit concerned about the talk of "court" and "sentnces" .. i thought you just got a letter and paid the fine !?. One of the links mentions infa-red cameras that don't even flash  so Lord knows how much i racked up !! This is my first fine/offence .. can you tell ? lol

Odd how i view them now ... as a pedestrian (sp) it was "Well if you don't speed you won't get fined" and now it's "Let me know the bloody limit so i can keep to it !" and "give me so warning" .

Well hope this finds all well .. i'm off to make Muffins for the Judge

"Bit concerned about the talk of "court" and "sentnces"

Only if you dispute the fine, never did that myself.

But some people will dispute legal action, and, with some research into legalities, maybe win.

But I do have a clean licence, and my last speeding offence was 40 odd years ago :) (my God, so many years).

Keep a look out for cameras, but the 'real' speeding limits are not what you might think they are.

Add up speedo inaccuracy (reads high), and then they allow +10% + some.

Mind you I dont take the chance thro speed checks.

You can of course just accept your 'guilt' and pay the fine, and accept the points on your licence.

Probably 99% do.

I would , too much stress, and hastle otherwise.

But if youre gonna lose that licence....

Lol

Thanks ... think i will just take the fine etc. Had a clean licence up until this so not too bad (not good either)

How long do the points stay on your licence ?

Penalty points are valid for a period of 3 years, but cannot be removed from your licence until 4 years have elapsed.

I thought it was only two years? Damn hope its not 4!

I thought it was only two years? Damn hope its not 4!

If it's drink driving it stays on your licence for 11 years

Nope don't worry - won't be doing that! No just plain *****y speeding ticket. I hope its just 2 years.

I thought it was only two years? Damn hope its not 4!

Three years for totting up purposes.

Four years being visible on your licence.

Five years for insurance purposes.

Great! :(

Re. speed REVENUE:rolleyes: camera's.

Found this on my internet travels

Speeding offence help - MoneySavingExpert.com Forums

worth a try, maybe with more research into (maybe) legally required speed camera calibration intervals ?

Anyone done this?
