Bulb-out warning but bulbs fine!

Featured Replies

Any ideas? Not sure if vagcom will tell me anything?

Basically on my way to and from work, the bulb out warning symbol came on, with the usual BEEEEEP, but all the bulbs are fine and it went out again after about 5 minutes. Could it be something else? Dodgy contact perhaps?

I had something similar, was an intermittant brake light I found when I noticed it against the garage door when reversing.

Could also be an issue with the resistance of one of the bulbs. Used to have it all the time on an old car, usually just before a bulb went pop.

Weird how it did the resistance thing when I had no lights on

Err'ing on the side of the brake lights thing as it's the one set of bulbs I could not check. I tried them in traffic though and could see them lighting up in the lens' of the car behind me.

Happens intermittently with mine, I tracked it down to the centre bar of the high level brake light intermittently not working. Hasn't done for a while and stealer can't find a fault  It's got to be a doggy connection or something.

From what I've seen, it seems to be a common fault.

Happens all the time on my Punto.

You need to take the bulbs out one by one, clean the contacts and refit

Exactly the same problem with my Fabia vRS. Dealer couldn't find a fault but one evening I noticed, when reversing, the centre section of the HL brakelight was out. Reported this to the dealer who fitted a new unit, under warranty. Since then, the warning light hasn't re-appeared. Still don't know why the fault wasn't detected at the dealership, though.

I had exactly the same happen to me the other day.

A chime was heard I looked at my dash In the black bit of plastic in the middle between the speedo and rev counter a light sign with an ! mark was lit.

Stayed on for about two minutes and went out. Checked my lights all round and were ok. Posted a question on the same subject yesterday and people have told me that it is something to do with the software in the computer-no need to worry.

Many times during a 2/3 week period with brake pedal pressed at traffic lights for instance I had same chime and symbol display for around 1 to 2 mins. As I said in earlier post, dealer couldn't find a fault, neither could I. It was only by chance I found out that the middle section of the HL brake light was out. It certainly wasn't out on the many occasions I got SWMBO to press the brake pedal while I kept a watch on the b/lights. New HL brake light has solved the problem, though.

I currently have a blown headlight bulb, and the car tells me this each time I start the car even though I have not yet turned the lights on. Some how the car seems to know.
