Fabia vRS: 312mm Brake Upgrade - Master Cylinder

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking at doing the 312mm brake upgrade for my Furby and I've got a question...

With the new calipers on, what effect does that have on the Master cylinder? Don't the larger platforms that have the 312's as standard have a different Master cylinder to drive them?

Thanks.

Phil.

I have 312's on my car and the master cylinder is the original. (???)

AFAIK once there is enough fluid in the lines, master cylinders, reservoir, etc. brakes and clutch will work just fine, mine do.

The fitting guide on Fabia-vrs.com - Home Page makes no reference to changing the master cylinder, but does suggest changing brake lines, and thats it apart from the kit itself and a drop of fluid.

I'm sure other cars have different master cylinders, but the original seems to do the job well on the Fabia.

(All of the above subject to correction and me being shot at dawn, of course)

In other cars when I've done big brake conversions, if the calipers are much larger then it's sometimes been slightly harder work on your foot, even if the car stops quicker. The problem is changing the master cylinder is a major task, unless there's another variant in the same range where the master cylinder will drop straight in, and I don't think there is on the Fabia / Polo / etc. Braided lines will definitely help, as at least your foot work won't be wasted!

as far as i know its not realy worth changing (if you can) some people on hear run 4 pot brembos :D:thumbup: with no problem.

I may be totally wrong on this, but someone told me the other day that the TT (312mm) Calipers are exactly the same as the Fabia VRS's, and that the only difference is the Carriers? Is this true? Because if it is the master cyclinder won't make any difference what so ever....

Someone please confirm if this is true? Cheers

no this is a common mistake people make,if you read the fitting guide lummux explains ths,and he really does know best:thumbup:

Definitely not the same caliper. Did the conversion a couple of weeks ago.

If I remember right they mount differently (so you wouldn't be able to mount the Fabia caliper on the TT carriers.)

Thje critical bit is the diameter of the pistons, if they are the same size then there will be no differenece at the master cylinder as the new callipers will still take the same amount of fluid to move them.

No, straight swap. They don't need anything else, the just work. I did 55k on a set and never had any issues.

IIRC the ibiza cupra has 312s as standard so might be worth a look what m/c these are fitted with?

Quick look on etos and the impression I get is there is only one m/c for the whole range.

Indeed - they're not the same caliper but there's bugger all difference in actual piston size. The benefit is in the larger diameter disc (better leverage and heat dissipation).

Thanks guys, I'm a bit more clued up now...

Looks like I'm going for the upgrade then...

Many Thanks.

Phil.
