Fabia 256mm rear disc conversion.

Featured Replies

Been looking into converting the rear solid discs to the larger vented ones from a TT/S3 for a while now. Now ive found a special spacer kit to allow the fitment of the quattro rear calipers rather than using washers etc which is a bit dodgy (but seen it done before) to the 2wd rear axle so its all go.

All thats is needed is a bit of trimming to the heat shield so I reckon to allow for the larger diameter disc, all I need to do is clean up the calipers, give them a lick of paint and locate some rear discs (read as go hunting around @ work ;) ).

The spacers (aircraft grade aluminium apparently) and high tensile bolts

However if you had the rear vented brakes from a 2wd car (i.e Octy vRS, Leon Cupra R, Anni Golf) these wouldnt be needed.

More pics when i've done a bit more to em :)

Nice one mate. Defo keep us updated on this!

Nice one. Keep us informed.

I take it your going to paint the calipers red to go with your Brembo's.

Got hold of a pair of discs today so ive got everything I need now, might attempt it over the bank holiday weekend. keep em peeled

Hmmm 323mm front and 256 mm rear, should slow me down ;)

Just a little!

Do you think these spacers will do the job - I have exactly the same setup waiting to go onto my Leon? 325mm 2-piece grooved Brembos arrive on Friday for the fronts!

Rob,

Let me see if they fit mine all ok. Then they will as your rear axle is the same set up as mine. I had thought of you and our recent converastions about this matter and was going to let you know how I got on.

Cheers

Ross

Cheers Ross that's great!

Any news Ross?

Been decorating all weekend (usual passtime for B/H weekend) and havent had a chance to try them out yet.

Will keep you up to date.

OK - no problem!

  • 4 weeks later...

Not managed to have a go at this yet Ross? Star performance are gonna have a go fitting my kit sometime over the summer - they are moving right now, so will be a couple of weeks I think.

  • 1 month later...

These spacers and longer bolts work! Star fitted Golf R32 256mm vented rear brakes onto my Leon Cupra using these and they went on no problem - I painted them before fitting so they look great, they match my new front 323mm Brembos!

Glad you got them sorted Rob, sorry i hadnt continued this thread.

I did try and fit the TT rears to the Fabia but it was a no go im afraid, things just didnt line up right, they could have been 'made' to fit but I didnt really want to mess with things that much.

Cheers

Ross

Ross while your on, can you tell me how to wind the rear pistons back on my furby. i'm trying to fit new pads. got a winding block but don't know how to use it.

If uprating the brakes was anything like my Focus then it'll stop like there is no tomorrow. Had 305mm Brembo 4 pots on the front, with 280mm 2 pots on the back ! Lets just say that it'd rip the tarmac off the road if you was braking hard.

Ross - I've still got those bloody Brembos lying in the workshop, I really need to get them fitted soon !!!!

If they are anything like Audi rear disc's you need to screw them in, they are like a double helix groove on the side of the pistons, so to get them to go back in a would of thought screw and push at the same time ?

cheers everybody for the help i managed to buy a universal brake winding tool from halfords and it worked a treat just as you described chavyboy. new brake pads on back seem to have cured all squeaking forward and back. fingers crossed it will stay like that. just by the way the new pads i put on had a groove in the middle i don't know if that makes any difference.

Tom.
