does anyone elses heater blow too hot?

Featured Replies

in my fabia vrs when i set the heater to anything other than the coldest setting the car gets too hot. even if i set it to 18 it seems to blow quite warm air, way warmer than i would expect.

i end up having to keep shifting between the coldest setting and 1 click further on.

anyone got any ideas?

cheers.

Maybe your warm blooded?

I notice this too, is quite warm on the low settings, maybe try putting your ac on ?

Heater flap motor - ours is beginning to 'go' this way (i.e. become less progressive) and mechanic (using VAG diagnostic) said there was an error code for the heater flap motor. Said it would get progressively worse.

Probably because its been below 18 degrees for god knows how long. So if you are on 18 degrees or higher it will try its best to warm it up to that. The only exception is th very end stop which it will default to flap open to cold.

Oddly, I too had recently noticed this in my car.

Mine's been like this ever since I got it nearly a year ago.

Asked about it at the first service, they said that no codes came up.

It seems hotter the faster you go, too.

maybe try putting your ac on ?

but that's just silly. you shouldn't have to get the car to spend effort cooling down the air that it's just spent effort warming up !!

It's a bit like Halls of residence in Uni - heating was free, so people would just have their radiators on full whack, and open a window if it was too hot

It's the heater flaps which control the heating system in the car. My old VRS had the problem and you'll probably have to take it to your dealer to get it fixed but it is a well known fault throughout the VAG group cars. Sadly it'll only get worse!

T

As long as it heats up ;)

Other than that i'll open the window

just a quick thought, i had the same prob but worked out that we have climate control so therefore the car blows really hot air to get the car up to temp and then level out to keep the car at that temp, i have it on 22, on the windows and feet and on fan 2, it seems to warm the car up quickest and sustain it

Mine blows hot too if I direct it to the screen, if I direct the flow to the floor its fine

Mine does this too... haha! Have to alternate between lowest setting and one click clockwise also!

Yeah, mine's always done it. I presumed it was just YET ANOTHER Fabia foible.

Mine does it as well. I've got the temperature constantly set at 18 degrees (my a**e). It also seems to vary the temperature depending on which direction I'm cornering. My old astra used to do this and I assumed it was just because it was getting clapped out. It's particularly noticable on roundabouts where you get a cold blast as you go round the roundabout and a hot blast as you come off it. Anyone got any ideas why this might be?

OMG, I assumed that this was just me! Mine's too hot unless it's on the coldest setting too. And I get a random blast of hot air when I take a corner! I have warrenty left, so is this just a case of take it to the dealer and try to persuade them to recognise the fault?

I'm the other way round, and notice a cold blast of air when turning left to come off a roundabout.

Well my damn heater resistor has packed in so only got full whack which is great unless sat still then it goes cold as its taking too much heat out of the engine

You're quite right! I got it the wrong way round. Hot blast going round, cold blast coming off!:D

I suspect most people are having problems with their flap motors - as has already been said. It's a known problem.

The garage can attempt to reset the flap motor using VAG Com (as detailed on the Fabia-vrs.com website under ECU / Convenience Unit Coding Options) but from what I have read previously on here this sometimes makes things worse or only works for a short time.

The solution is to replace the flap motors (I beleive there are two - one controlling the amount of hot air and the other controlling where that air is directed) which are burried deep in the dashboard. The dealer will say it's a dash-out job (with plenty of labour) but in reality they only need to remove the glovebox.

Those whose car's in warranty should get it checked out as I believe it's a £350-£400 job.

I am looking to do this job myself at some stage - someone else on here has done so and said it took them about 4 hours. If doing DIY I believe Skoda have to programme the motors afterwards - maybe the same method as described on the Fabia-vrs website??.

I have looked for photo's on here but can only find some for glovebox removal . . IF I go down the DIY route I will try and write a guide.

What he said.

It looks like an anlogue kind of climate control. If I have mine on 18 it comes out boiling for a bit then when the air temp in the cabin reaches 18 it cools off to maintain in. Try leaving it on the setting for a while and see if the air blowing in cools at all.

I think this is the way climate control is meant to work.

problem is, lower than 18 is just "cold", which I guess is round about 10 or so (lower when air-con is on) what if you want 16 degrees ?

I had this problem, luckily the Dealer found the fault :) It was the flap motor and two other motors of some description... sorry can't remember what they were called.

What did they do upon finding the fault? reset computer? fit new motors? cheers

Ours has just started doing this too.

Thought it was becasue the missus has had it constantly set to maximum hot since about October!

Still got warranty left too so will have to try and get the garage to recognise the fault. That'll be fun.

And I've thought i've been going mad this last year thinking the heater wasnt right!

I've been getting v154(fresh air/ recirc) VAG-COM errors for a while now. The motor is to the left of the fan blower motor behind the glovebox. Though it looks like access is only by removing the blower motor.

I've got this too and only noticed it recently. Seems a bit strange that it's only just now happening to eveyone. Spooky.. :P

I'm out of warranty so will rely on turning it up and down frequently and using the windows for now. :)
