Was that the odd one with only 3 wheel nuts or something. I’m sure I knew somebody who had a car with 3 wheel nuts coz one of their wheels dropped off.

I think the old Renault 5 had three wheel nuts.

When i was 17 my mum bought a mini for her to drive and me to learn in and eventually have when i passed my test.

Thsi car had some of the worst mods in history!

I decided to paint the engine block to make it look nice, this included all the nuts as well. Anyway, didnt tighten them up enough so when my mum took the car out on the M32 it packed up in a big ball of steam!! Not a happy mummy!

Some other bright spark told me that if you put a carb from a 1.4 metro on your mini they go like stink...........So off i went to the scrappy, bought a carb, fit it (badley) it was so rough! Flames used to come out of the exhaust! I had no idea how to set up a carb and it idilled at 3.5k revs which was great as i never had to use the gas, used to drive around with my foot out the window!

Finally took it to a garage with a rolling round to tune it up and sort it out and they couldnt fix it, must of had 5 or 6 trips to this garage with no luck.

In the end the AA man had to be called out one night and he noticed that two pipes were on the wrong way round and that was it! Drove well after that!:D

The AX and early saxos only had 3 wheel nuts too :)

Yeah only 3 nuts:eek: Last thing you want is your nuts dropping off if you've only got 3;)

  • 3 weeks later...

Had a 3 year "relationship" with an Impreza. So easy to modify for extra power but for every pound spent modding (Hybrid turbo, boost controller, tubular manifold, decat system) you needed two to cover the weakness it exposed (Clutch, Gearbox, rear diff, turbo, brakes, headlight upgrade (essential), suspension bushes, suspension corrosion!, lots of tyres and finally big ends). So fast (Holy **** fast), but so fragile, 16 mpg and constantly paying out bled me dry (but I still miss the rush!).

Changed the clutch on my mini 1275 GT with the engine in place. Had to remove the brake master cylinder to get access. Got distracted. Later went for a test drive and while driving down the drive I noticed the master cylinder sitting in the passenger footwell. Crashed into a group of dustbins to stop me going into the main road. The handbrake was always rubbish.

I changed the clutch on my 1275 GT. Managed to put the clutch plate on the wrong way around. Didn't notice until everything was assembled and I tried the cluch pedal, it wouldn't even move:mad::o

chipped an accord with superchips.... same results as lady elanore.... wouldnt touch em with a barge pole now..... (superchips... hondas are fine....)

tried 7 different intake kits on the next Accord was a 2.2 type R and every kit increased decibels and decreased power. Ar5e.

tweaked the 911 to have gt3 susp settings.... handled great but could eat a pair of 285/30/18's in about 1800miles..... then found out this is why GT3's run different offset / width of rims....

not my finest tuning hour....

think this thread should be hidden... i to scared to do anything to my car now! lol

SWMBO's mk1 Fiesta had 2 sets of spot lights on when she bought it but neither set worked. I removed the larger sillier looking lights and wired them all up to the main beam stalk and all was well. It was only a few weeks later that we realised that the lights only worked if the radio was turned on

my old pug 309 1.6GR

Removed battery, Removed front bumper and fitted new GTI bumper, wired up all the lights, then installed my new K & N induction kit and relocated the battery and Power Steering resevoir. Reconnected the battery tested all the lights and the all worked fine, started up went for a drive and all was fine, found some quiet roads started to enjoy the drive braked quite hard going into a corner and then the car went dead, Engine cut out, lights turned off, no ignition lights nothing. Lifted the bonnet to find that the batter was no longer in the engine bay and had slid off the battery shelf.. DOH, not only did it slid off but it also took the plug off the wires leaving a live and negative wire with no plug on them:O
