Creaking Bushers?!?!

Featured Replies

Morning all!

Been to the local Asda this morning and going over a few speed ramps (slow) i can hear my rear of my car creaking (last time i encountered this was in my fezzy and when the MOT was done it failed due to the rear bushers being nackered)

Has anyone recently had new standard bushers replaced and if so how much am i lookin at having to spend? (i got the big 70k service +Cam due in july so looking at the financial side of things)

Thanks all

The "search" button is your friend.

Less than 2 minutes searching this forum turned up DIY Guide on fitting bushes and Awesome GTI Quote for bushes.

Lots more about this to be found using the search function, honest it's not difficult ! :)

The above quote is good for noises coming from the front - even although the TCA rear bush might sound as its in the centre (front<>back) of the car - but the original posting said "noise from rear".

Adamdcfc, are you really sure that you hear the noise when the rear wheels meet the speed bumps and not the front wheels?

Fair comment ! :D

I'd also check the rear shock absorbers before looking at the T.C.A. bushes (cos' it's an easier job) as I've seen cars with creaking shocks before, usually when they're knackered but T.C.A. bushes are indeed a known cause of this ! :D

Adamdcfc, all is not lost yet, if the noise really does come from the rear, as suggested use the search function but try aiming for suspension noises from the rear - it could just be salt etc causing the pivot point to creak a bit - blast them with water (not pressure wash though), as a Polo 9N "carer" I have no experience of failing rear beam bushes - but whilst reading threads I have never noticed any general trends that would indicate that these items are prone to failure on these cars - but there is always got to be a first one!! (hope not for your sake).

One other couple of things, as preached many times on this forum - 1) get a VAG indep specialist to do this work if possible - if its TCA bush problems then replace both sides with Seat Ibiza Cupra solid bushes - suspension geometry needs setting up - not a DIY friendly task. 2) on the matter of your failed electro-hydraulic pump, if its really really failed, then why not buy a re-manufactured one from BBA - see other postings on stering pump problems. I have no experience of dealing with them but they have been around for some time now and re-manufacture steering pumps for (BMW)Mini and others as well. (seems like a lot of car manufacturers are now using these fragile parts - more costs for owners!!!).

Update, where did I get the idea you also had steering pump problems? I hope I have not now caused this to to happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tut tut, cross posting, what sort of dumb game am I playing, I'll get my coat - bye!
