52000 miles, 1 cruise control stalk, 1 electric boot latch, plenty of oil and the engine management came on tonight on the way home.

It's not great but I would consider another.

I'm very happy, BUT the trouble is that it's a percentage game - those who are happy versus those who ain't.

Now, remember, this applies to all makes.

Let's look at hypothetical make "A".

There are those who have no gripes thus suggesting that they have never had a problem and there are those who have had problems. At this point one must bear in mind the perception of quality that comes with the brand and price.

What is the ratio of Happy to Not Happy?

It seems that the "Happy" far outweigh the "Not Happy" with regard to Skoda.

EVERY make has users who encounter problems!

The result for Skoda is extremely positive and will help us all at trade in time!:)

Why????

I come to Skoda from 13 years with Citroen. I was very happy with both Xantias that I had. It's a much maligned marque which makes it ideal for buying secondhand as the residuals are so low.l

The reason that I changed to Skoda is because I have learned to totally distrust common rail diesels. I came specifically for the PD and am most sad to see that VAG must go common rail for emission reasons.

Meanwhile count me as a happy Skoda bunny.

Why????

Maybe just a prejudiced view, but the only good thing to come out of France is wine :D

Also as stated above, awful RV's

It's fair to say the latest crop of frenchies aren't bad at all, Citroens in particular.

The C5 gets a good review in TG magazine this month. I had a Xantia and I loved it - a Y plate 1.8 16v LX

It's looks good and has a few little quirks and i'm fed up with the bobbly ride from the Octavia TBH. I can't do anything about it as it's a lease car :thumbdwn:

Going off topic so I'll end it there.

My Octy1 had 2 visits to the dealer (not including services) in 3years. A seized rear brake caliper and an indicator unit problem.

So far my Octy2 has had 10 visits (not including services) in 2.5 years.

You could say I have just been unlucky with my Octy2. However it only had 3 faults but they required multiple visits to get sorted (4 for door-speaker problem, 3for cruise control and 3 for Emmisions warning light).

Despite that I would have another one!

My Mk1 had 2 visits for warranty work in 3 years. My Mk2 had 12 in the first 18 months.

I won't have another one.

My vRS TDI; one year old (next week) 17,000 miles; no squeaks or rattles. Only one dealer visit to align Xenons (should have been done on PDI).

Happy driver. :D

TFSI, 1 yr, 11000 miles, no warranty work, no squeaks or rattles.

Would gladly buy another and reccomend to others.

Happy with mine, and that's what I told Auto Express when the 2008 survey was open. (there is a link on the forum, too late now, you'll have to wait for 2009!)

Any link?

Been a year without my octavia now but still one of the most enjoyable cars I have owned

Auto Express wont release a link to the 2008 survey until the magazine is off the shelf.

Give it a couple of weeks as part two is next week: "The Dealers"

Here is 2007 survey if it helps:

Driver Power 2007 | Car Reviews | Auto Express

That plus if it is an 08 survey I'm guessing it is still catching a lot of the 54/05 reg cars many of which would still be MK I's.

Er..........no, actually. The Mk 1 was not mentioned at all.

That's funny 'cos there a very familiar looking car at 30th place?

I meant in the No. 1 spot

So the MK I has gone from near the top to position 30?

Hmm says something I think

I had a 250k mile Citroen BX that was more reliable than the MK II

Just seen this in the mag, what a great achievement, 2 years running who would have thought it!

By the way do any of you guys think this could potentially affect residuals/2nd hand prices?

A mate of mine just bought a very expensive Audi A4 170tdi s-line (sorry for any A4 drivers here) & he has not stopped talking about how wonderful & well put together it is & how it looks sooo good in black blah, blah......sorry whats that 43rd position - PAH!

:D <-----sarcastic evil grin

local radio dj was taking the p--- out of skoda drivers at lunchtime, wouldnt read my text out either when i texted in.

Very similar car with more expensive parts used in some places. Maybe the audi drivers have higher expectations?

Nice cars but I found it hard to justify the extra cost over the VRs especially considering it had a smaller boot and less room in the back.

'Skoda till I die' has anyone scanned the article? I am too tight to buy the magazine, hence owning a Skoda and not a Audi - lol

I agree, I wouldn't pay the extra. I was just saying that Audi drivers obviously expect more for their extra money as essentially the parts are the same. As such the Skoda scored much more highly than the audi.

No question that Audi carries a quality name but really when your talking A4's etc, we all know you can save a packet & get the Octavia with similar specs/engine etc...unless you can simply afford one, however when your talking A6's then this is a step up in size & ride comfort & at the moment the new Superb IMO will be a real contender especially when/if there will be a Combi version of it later this or next year, the A6 Avant has always been on my list before I went for the Scout but just couldn't do the extra 4k for the same spec as the Scout, the new Superb Combi is looking favourite next time round as the Scout is still a little cramped with the kids, I don't want to go down the people carrier route again...

I dare say the new Superb won't cut the same mustard as the A6 in the executive car park.
