Windows Vista Service Pack 1 released

Featured Replies

SP 1 for Vista came out yesterday and addresses certain issues with Vista. What they are I can't be bothered to find out but I updated via Windows Update today (the file is much smaller doing it this way) and haven't noticed any major disturbances in the force. There are a number of critical updates that must be completed before installing Vista SP1, relating to drivers and, erm, general stuff.:D

I must have had around 30 or so small updates in the last week. I wonder if that is what I have had?

Along with my "no I will not fix your computer" T-shirt :D

Ah as I speak I have been offered a UUUUUUUUGE download. Back in a bit.

I cured this problem by severely limiting the amount of programs that run on startup (and er, also increasing the amount of RAM by 300%). HTH!:D

Don't download the full pack, Just go into the start menu and select All Programs, then click on Windows Update and it will do it automatically. the file is only 65KB if you use Windows Update...

I installed this earlier, and the only thing I noticed was my pop 3 emails wouldnt work anymore. Odd. I've fixed them now, my authentication requirements seemed to have changed themselves. I mean, I don't know how - I make chips, but they worked fine before the update.

I was seriously thinking of going back to XP myself, but I'll see how it runs on SP1 for now.

Wrong sort - sorry :P

Toooooooooooooooooooo late.

A couple of hours later and 65 mg of download all is up and running again. Funnily enough, I tried to send an e-mail and it failed, so I tried again and it worked?

I am thinking of using a potato to print stuff and an Abacus to count with. Oh and a pencil and paper to remember stuff.

Maybe they've stopped email working so it's more secure.

You mean you people actually install windows updates?!

lol

Haven't had any problems to speak of with vista so far (touch wood)... apart from not being able to use a virtual drive but that was down to another program conflicting.

If it aint broke... dont fix it!!!

Ive been using SP1 since RC1

So it's not just me that doesnot understand what the uber geek said then:confused:

It took more than three bloody hours to install SP1 on this machine , but it's back now and seems to work ok so far.

Sp1 has caused a few problems on this laptop.

It won't hibernate now - if you try it just crashes the machine and when you power it up it says that the problem was caused by the graphics drivers and I should update them.

I downloaded some newer ones from Intel and when I try and install them it claims that they are up to date if I go through device manager , or if I just run the setup it says that it's for the wrong system......

 Like I'd trust anything PC World ever said after they fkn ripped me off for £1200 for a box of wires that blew up every 4 weeks up until the warranty ran out. Fraudulent Amateurs.
