vRS Front Mud Flaps

Featured Replies

My vRS is currently on order, I was wondering about fitting front mud flaps. One dealer I spoke to while I was doing the rounds said that they could not be fitted to a vRS because of the skirts, however when I asked the question on another forum I was told by another member that his car was equipped with them. I have since spoken to Skoda customer services who also told me they could not be fitted. Has anyone who has bought a vRS new had front mud flaps fitted by a dealer? Were they standard Octavia front flaps? Have people found that there is any need for them or is there sufficient protection from the car bodywork. Your help and experiences are much appreciated.

how long is the wait, and when do you pay for it, before its ordered, or when you recieve it.

Hi,

My vRS has front mudguards but these were already fitted but these were on it when I picked the car up. I got my vRS from my dealer as a sub 2000 mile car which was returned as the previous owner didn't want it anymore. These guards look fine and appear 'standard' to my untrained eye and I'm glad mine has them as I live out in the countryside and the roads can get a bit messy!

Cheers

Hugh

This should be no problem, I fitted the mudflaps to my vRS. There is only one set of front mudflaps for the octavia, and the cost is approx

I've fitted front mudflaps to my vRS too. Isn't too hard, but it did involve drilling into the car. IIRC the point at which you have to drill is clearly marked, so it's not too nerve wracking though!!

John (stopan1j) has mudflaps fitted, here are the images he posted in another thread that seems to have got messed up in the forum transfer

So were do you buy these mud flaps? I am already finding that the front wheels are throwing tar down the sills! Only got it on friday and had to wash it Sunday!

I think John got them from his local dealer, standard octavia ones

Got mine from the dealer (IIRC they were off the shelf!). Cost about 15 squids.

I'm going to hazard a guess that Skoda doesn't want to see them fitted to the vRS because they would shave a tiny bit off top speed and increase fuel consumption minisculely as well, plus they don't really fit in with the sporting image of the car. (Looks at brochure and sees that rear mudflaps are standard across the Octavia range, although none of the cars in the brochure have them fitted. thinks.gif ) As for skirts, what skirts exactly? Is this something we non-vRS owners need to know about? redface.gif Perhaps delcac could comment? Or samandjanet?

I always fit front mudflaps if at all possible to help keep the sides of the car clean. I would have thought the wider wheels and tyres on the vRS would have made that even more necessary, especially if the car is silver or yellow. (FWIW, vRS endorses the fitting of front mudflaps).

Time to buy the dog a skirt........dog.gif

They are definitely the standard mudflaps costing around

Have just been to my dealer and bought a set as I was going past anyway. Cost

Thankyou for all your replies, especially the photos. It appears unanimous that they can be fitted and that they are required. In reply to Daytrippers question, the car is coming in mid May. It is black with cruise and parking sensors. There was one left in stock and it disappeared off of the computer while I was at the dealer

Ps re the wait for the car. It was that particular spec that was out of stock I

It seems front mudflaps have been taken off the equipment list on the Octavia then , as both my 99 slxi 1.8T and my 01 vRS came with them factory fitted , and I have to agree that the car looks bare without them ...and imagine how dirty it would get! Oh and they come up great if you give them a rub with a cloth laced with Autoglym vinyl and rubber care! ;-)

I got my front "flaps" today,

In my pictures that Manny posted you will notice the sills are no dfferent on the Standard "Silver" Octavia and my "Yellow Octavia RS" . I do wonder about Customer Services sometimes:mad:

I have never had any problems with the flaps scraping the ground when cornering - even on track at the weekend.

I did hear that rear flaps were being dropped from Factory built cars - although available as accessories.

Denis,

Spot on couldnt agree more I found those wide tyres do throw the stones up - and non fitment could result in chips on sills and doors.

On the rear subject - I find that I get chips on front edge of rear wheel arch by the rear door - no such chips on my standard Octavia - its weird as I havn't noticed on other RS's - shall have to post pictures and get other owners of the model range to check for similar damage.
