just had my tuftrayz sump fitted

Featured Replies

Hello all, thought i would bang up a post about the tuftrayz sump that i have just had fitted, i understand its the first for the 1.9pd so was asked to take loads of pics! Took the day off work to head down to totalvag in leighton buzzard.

arrived and car put on the ramp right away and undertray removed undertray had marks of where it catched on it all ready! Didnt know just how low these engines sit!

now you can see from the last picture just how low the sumps sit compared to the bottom of the bumper, anyone thats got there fabia Lowered should think of protecting there sump my undertray is now about 1 inch from the floor with the coilovers on! Ill get some pictures, and have a reinforced sumped is piece of mind (ill still be watching for anything in the road)

Stuart from tuftrayz came along to have alook afterward, where i was speaking to him about arranging a group buy for the forum this looks like it could be in the making if the interest is there. Totalvag will be holding these in stock and i understand there are the sole distributors for all tuftrayz products.

Now if we can get a group of people together im happy to arrange this group buy, just add your name to the list the more people there are the cheaper they will become!

for more information check out Total VAG Ltd :: Independent VW AUDI SEAT SKODA Specialists in Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire. they have a had new site lauched this week.

will it be tough enough is the question,i am quite interested, even tho i don't believe my sump is at risk, just in case:D

to my untrained eye, it looks like someone has just welded a steel plate to your sump:O.

i thought much the same have you looked under the front of your car? my undertray rubs against a piece of metal sitting in the carpark to my house block, the metal is there for the gates and is only just over an inch high! if i hit something at speed and smashed the sump think of the overall damage/cost! Its piece of mind that the sump is strong hopefully stand up to a hit rather than just **** oil all over the road!

have you not seen a reinforced sump before? as thats about just what it is. Stronger thicker reinforced!

yeah I agree it is better to be safe. I had a couple of scary moments in my fabia and it was no where near as low as yours. I'm not sure what I expected a toughened sump to look like.

You got some good pics though.

Are Tufftrays also producing a sump guard as well as a toughened sump?

What's the RRP on these?

I have been trying to get Stuart from tuftrayz to make a metal undertray as well like he does for the passat, but understand the development cost are always high, so that would be down to interest aswell. needs some buyers so we can make him make one too! unless we can get the cad drawings from the one already made! At least we wouldnt have to wait for them forever if tuftrayz made them.

I know Stuart and Greig very well, have also met Leigh at TotalVAG, great blokes.

The sumps are also baffled on the inside to stop oil surge (or can be).

I'm looking to buy one for my Golf (and possibly one for Bengie) so I would think a group buy could be sorted out pretty easily.

TBH i would be able to smash that! ;)

I have smashed a sump before and it needs to be stronger than that i'd say, you need an alloy sumpguard aswell ;)

Better protecting the sump rather as getting a stronger sump? will not stop it getting hit

The point is just to give it a little more protection, if your that hell bent on stuffing it then no amount of strenghening or undertrays is going to help.

But if you need to change the sump anyhow you might aswell put a stronger one on and its internally baffled so will help with oil surge.

My thoughts precisely.

There's already been a few threads with people showing an interest, but we need prices! Without an estimate on the RRP you'll just get people dropping out once they realise how much it's going to sting the wallet.

wont stop it getting hit thats for sure, that why i want a metal undertray sorted too, this is why if we all club together and get this sorted.

All the boys at total vag are great, into there car and find the solutions you want to here. So im sure they will push Stuart too.

I'm pretty sure sumpguards are available for fabia's as theres a few VRS's that rallye in Ireland, my mechanic friend is also a rallye driver and he said he could get me an alloy rallye spec sump guard - (theres no way you would smash that baby)

i think the issue with group buys from a new product is the fact that it still needs to be made/production costs and design time. If the original cad drawings can be passed onto Stuart then theses costs could be saved.

high on dirt , where is all that oil from on the subframe , looks like a bit of a leak from somewhere

There were a whole batch of them made at one time on a group buy. Problem is they were costly to make in such a short run and with the amount of bracing you would need to make it strong enough it will drop the height on the car underneath considerably thus catching on more things anyhow.

Xav is still running his on my old car, bit of a tight squeeze with the FMIC and even though its alloy its pretty darn heavy and the Fabia front end aint light as it is.

So having the word 'rallye' makes it a stronger sump? a sump guard is generally going to be the same, having a one off takes alot of time design and input thus rallye teams having the money to put into the development of there cars. Making them for a market and affordable means the time/development costs will need to be spread over the products sold. This is what we can do to save us time and money, i dont want to wait for a undertray to be designed and take on the costs myself, i havent got the funds. But i want it right and realiable! And im pretty sure everyone would feel the same

sump plug was leaking on old sump, found it when it was serviced looked like it was cross threaded at some point, this is why i contacted Stuart to get one made even more so when i wanted it lowered! thought i might aswell replace it with a better one.

Exactly, is your baffled internally?

No Stuart hasnt had any baffled ones made yet, think the first is going onto the 1.8t golf rallye at totalvag, ill have to have alook but he has my car to use as development if needed, its always down at totalvag anyway. My office is only next door.

Cool, I have spoken to Leigh about mine. I used to work with Stuart and Greig at MK SEAT a few years back so know them well. Did you pop along to the open day ladt weekend? Pretty good turn out which was nice for them.
