You are correct there has never been 12v power outlet on any hatch model pre or facelift. A seperate feed would be required to install one, I agree it would be handy to have one, dont really know why they only fitted one on estate models - perhaps its so the dog kennel has a cigerette lighter for any smoking dogs on board.
