Conspiracy... or sore losers?

Check out this thread on Scoobynet regarding sundays top gear.

Is it really hard to accept that a scoob isnt the be all and end all of cars now?... the fabia is tho

Still think the Evo is an ugly bugger...

The EVO is a halfords special!

Imagine if they pitted either a Fabia against a Clio or a Tavia against a Mondeo and the result wasn't in the Skuds favour. There would be a similar reaction on here.

I n fairness, the EVO's are supplied with sticky Yokohama tyres than the Scoob's Bridgestones but the EVO is a better track car.

Mike Woods ( big gun of Prodrive) made some interesting comments though. The Scoob may not have been as fast in the hands of a racing driver, but it is more predictable and so is better suited to your average driver. Stability is the enemy of speed!

Evo is a more raw car with very hard suspension, AYC and sticky tyres which make it an awesome performer on track. However, it eats tyres, needs an in-between services service at 4.5k miles, has a tiny 45l petrol tank to give a range of 150-200 miles (although I think this has now been addressed!), a yukky plastic interior and Gp 20 insurance which mean it's not the most practical of cars to own and run :D Does have the advantage that all Evo's are Jap imports, but are backed my a Mitsi 3 year main dealer warranty.

I think their latest detuned offering goes someway to appealing to the poorer among us to tempt us away from the WRX and standard STi, and after sitting in it at the Motorshow I think they've done a good job and I'd seriously consider one if I had a spare 25k. ;) Ugly? Who cares! It's the view from behind the wheel I care about :D

Chris

A bloke down my street has an EVO and fork is it quick.He had an RS6 sold it and bought an M5 said it was 'boring' and bought his 2nd EVO, first one writen off on a trackday.Took me for a spin up Trinity Rd {over wandswoth bridge}

Hit 130 before he got to the top of the hill -before the 1st set of lights.

Then he showed me what 4 wheel drive can do, doughnuts around wandsworth roundabout, futkin wild......If i could afford to run one i would'nt have an Octavia.

Steve

I went for a ride in a friends evo6... he was tryin to impress but I found it rather boring... yes it was quick (we did an indicated 130) but there wasnt that much sensation of speed.... far too refined :D

An EVO 6 refined

My mate had an EVO 6 Tommi Mak and it was brutal!

Unless your day to day transport is a Westfield, you cannot call an EVO refined!

Oi NO!! :nono: .... Moggies are definitely more refined ... although the Evo might have it on the twisties :D

Ahhh that'll be it then.... 7-type kitcar with fireblade engine in and no doors or windscreen makes most things refined :D

MMmmmm sounds nice...........

EVO 6 tommi Mak but the limited Monty Carlo edition (i think only 20 or so were made) would be my all time fav car...

the current Evo's have a much poorer interior IMO

True what someone said though, if they pit an Octy or Fab vRS again something hot from ford or renault say and the Skud's didnt come out trumps we'd be trying to find excuses why not.

Way i look at it is this, my octy vRS is a deffinate step up from the R19 16v i had before it, the build quality, the performance and the space are better than anything else i looked at in the 13K price band and age bracket i wanted, so, in my eyes this is the best car for me. end of.

Still think the Evo is an ugly bugger...

indeed...... after watch top gear me and my lass had a heat debate as she hates Subaru's with a passion (I on the other hand love them). I knew that the evo would beat the scooby, it wasn't a surprise to me. The evo has always been that little bit better on the track, yet everytime in road tests the Scooby is the winner.

Why?

Simple the evo is ugly and it just tries too hard to be the best! I love the impreza and to be honest I dont care if the evo is quicker, you don't buy a car just on how fast it will go.....how often do you really get a chance to do that?!? You buy a car because of how it makes you feel. Yeah I know the fabia wont beat the over hot hatchs off the mark and ok some may handle better, but I dont care coz I like my fabia it does what I want it to when I want it to.........it's different and not main stream!

Anyway to stop ramberling on about a load of rubbish, scooby owners just chill and enjoy what you have coz as long as you loce it who gives a flying pig what anyone else thinks!!

Might be quicker round a track, but when was the last time you saw a Mitsi win a WRC event ;)

Chris

kinda my point, the impreza always quicker in the real world :P

Simple the evo is ugly ??????????

from a scoob driver.... FFS?

how can anyone say an Evo is ugly that has owned a scoob - scoobs are unbelieveably ugly.....!

beauty is in the eye of the beholder...............or he who has had too many pints :P

Hehehehe try telling this plod Clicky Clicky

I don't think he'll be trying to show off and go sideways round that corner for a while, although I wonder if he lifted off the throttle which is why it snapped back? Definitely a brown trouser moment!

I remember at the RallyDay last year at Castle Combe on the Evo session, one of the Evo's coming out of Quarry on the wrong side of the track and ploughing straight into the tyre wall, taking out most of the front of his car. Luckily the guy and his passenger walked (or staggered away!) and the car was repaired and is now back on the road.

A good spectator track though :)

Chris

Chris I was told he lifted off the throttle which I am also told is very very bad in a scooby.

It certainly is - it's known as lift-off oversteer and can catch you out if you're not ready for it. In a 4 wheel drive car, if the back end steps out, apply more power to correct it. Not intuitive, but once you get used to it, it's a lot of fun :D

opps!! lol...........yeah I've been told it's best not to do that.......I think he was just unready for what happened and to slow to react to what happened. Not saying that I would have been any better lol

edited to add:

I've been at castle coome a few times both on and off the track. its always entertaining. I have lost it there myself trying to keep up with an impreza in the wet (me in a pug 306 what was I thinking), lucky for me I missed anything hard!

It's easy to do and yes it was the same corner as in the vid!!

Maybe we should invite him to the handling day so he can practice in safety ;)

Chris

I would defo have another scooby, given the choice.

The new MY03/4 scoobys are a lot nicer looking than the old bug eyes and are comparable to the new evo in looks. They have raised the power to match the evo, without sticking in every gizmo under the sun to keep it on the blackstuff.

As someone else said before, the scooby is also far easier to drive fast compaired to the evo.
