ozone type smell

Featured Replies

Sometimes when I stop my Fabia 1.9 sdi 2001 Y reg 111,000 miles on clock, I get a strong "ozone" smell..... (no it isn`t my deodorant) anyone got any ideas what could be the cause of it?

Stupid question but do you often park near a large electrical store or substation etc and it is that you can smell rather than the car?

Check the rear footwells for dampness. This will give an earthy ozone smell if your door carriers are leaking due to the copious amounts of water we have to endure in this country.

No.... sorry chaps.....neither of those.... It is definitely something I can smell, as if it is coming from the engine.....sometimes it is quite strong, and sometimes not so strong.... have wondered about it for a while.... Not unpleasant.... but postmanpat seems to know the kind of smell I mean.... Have smelt it when going round the back of the car too... (hence my thinking of engine/exhaust)

is it that smell you sometimes get driving behind some buses these days?

smells sort of clean?

Just exhaust fumes i suspect.

Don`t know about driving behind buses, cos I only smell it when I am parking up i.e stop engine, get out of car, and there it is !..... yes... I suppose you could say it was a "clean" type smell.... sort of thing you get if you do a "flashover" with heavy duty cables on a 12 volt car battery....

How quick do you drive maybe your using your brakes too harsh and there smoking ??

Maybe your riding the clutch too??

is it the windscreen wash?

Do you get a shock when you get out.

(have you tried vacuuming talc with a dyson)

It is not the brakes.... I know when they are hot, and recognise the burning smell from there.... have holidays in Wales, and revel in the steep mountain tracks,....Have been driving for 45 years, and do not "ride the clutch"

Next one....

No. it isn`t the windscreen wash.... (or were you joking?)

Next one....

No. I do not get a shock when I get out..... I think I am a brighter spark than you..

No. I do not use talc, or own a dyson either...

After i park my car in the garage i get this smell as the exhausts point downwards and its just exhaust fumes.

Just checking, some people don't know how to check oil or change a wheel /\

Apology accepted.

The power steering pump?

  • Author

Replaced the power steering pump at same time as power steering rack failed... .... no symptoms of failure

No. I do not get a shock when I get out..... I think I am a brighter spark than you..

 Just an idea.

Why not run some fuel treatment through it and see if it helps?

It's really a guessing game

  • Author

Just an idea.

ok I`ll accept your apology too !

How about the aircon!!

i would go for exhaust fumes causing the smell. As said before, try a fuel treatment/injector cleaner. Dont think its anything to panic about.

I don`t have it on my "basic" "classic" model....

(the air conditioning..... )

i had this on my vauxhall it was either just after the car had started or if i turned the air con off, guessed that when the car started with air con on it was the cause as it didnt happen if i started the car without the air con on. just an idea. if it is it needs a good clean (air con spray) or it could be cos its leaking and needs topping up (and leak sorted).
