Fun in the sun (whilst it lasted) - Furby's on track

Featured Replies

Yesterday was my 'cheap but fun' ninth trackday at Blyton Park, and a few of the Briskoda Furby owners came along to enjoy the day.....

Many thanks to Oilburninut, Fabokvrs, Skudmissile and whoever the other guy was (I'm crap with names).

Let's hope a few more want to join in the next one later in the year.

You know if you copy in the IMG tags that photobucket provide, it puts the pics actually up in the thread to save clicking on each one. ;)

Good pics though.

Jason....

When I first submitted the thread the images were twice the width of the screen, so I made them click's instead. They seem to be working better now

he was taking it so easy he was spinning it out all over:PHe was trying, but just didn't have the skilz required to go quick, but he got better as the day wore on,untill the rain came that is:D

If he comes next time I don't mind spending some time getting him up to speed. Alternatively, Rallydrive (the company who own and run Blyton) have several excellent instructors. He could either sort his own tuition out, or I can arrange for a tutor to be at the next day I run. £150 per 1/2 day. Many of the Scooby boys have had it and they all agree it advances their driving greatly.

See what I mean, I'll have to go revert them back now !

Right, they're back as clicks. No idea why when I post the tag versions they end up 4 miles wide  Always worked before :confused:

lol,i've never understood why some of the threads do this:confused:

Can anyone explain,or is it just one of those things?

I think he was just scared of the car tbh.

I think just a ride round in your fabia would give him some better idea of which line to take  I know the stuff you told me helped me on the corners i was having problems with.

The track is a very technical one, its not just a case of going balls out like you said :)

It is a very quick motor, when i drove it the problem i see is that the rear is just too light, it spins very easily.

I think it will be rwd the next time blyton see's it ;)

I have to question the '500kg', has this been confirmed? The Ford Ka, accoring to Ford's website has a kerbside weight of 890-950kg. The alloys and tyres weigh in at 21-25kg each, with brake discs 10kg each. The cage was a cross braced design which must have been IRO 80kg of tubing, and he was running standard glass, no lightweight acrylic or polycarbonate. An Ariel Atom is 550kg, and that is just a cage, an engine and two plastic seats, add a bodyshell to this and I can't fathom how he'd have got the weight anywhere near 500.

Looks like a great day was had by all

Nice pics , that SE looks great!!

Two questions

1, Do you tell your insurance company's

2, Why??. The racing will damage gearboxes, tyres etc etc etc.

Actually it weighs about 630kg

The engine is actually alot lighter than the standard 1.3 as its all alloy.

most of the body shell has been cut away and the archs are just fiberglass, as is the front wings bumper etc.

1) At your discretion, but generally if I do a trackday, I do it knowing I am uninsured

2) FUN! :D :D Some people seek thrills in different ways. Many like to thrash cars, and the cost of replacing bits and bobs is part & parcel. :) Gearboxes will be fine, but tyres will get worn out a bit faster.

Have you never wanted to feel the limits of your car???

I think that all drivers should experiance this day, not only can you get a safe feel for the limits of your car but you can perfect your driving style and learn to control things like understeer and over steer.

No matter how slow and careful you drive I bet at some point in your driving life you will experiance either oversteer or understeer. If people knew how to control and correct these motions then there would be far fewer accidents and mishaps.

You dont have to thrash your car on this circuit its a small technical circuit. I think the fastest i went was 80mph and that was on the long straight.

My front tyres are a little bit worn now but it was well worth it

1. No. I accept the risk I am taking. This event is organised and run by me, and I allow NO OVERTAKING, meaning any damage should be the fault of the individual.

2. Because I don't want to lie on my death-bed thinking 'I wish I'd........(insert your dreams, desires, passions or whatever). It's fun, it's exciting, it's educational and it's two very stiff fingers thrust violently in the direction of the green eco-to55pot delusional climate global catastrophe brigade.

well said that man,its the most fun you can have with your cloths on:thumbup:

:thumbup:Looks like fun, anyone collect any tyres on the way round:eek:

Am liking oilburninut's front grille, a lot;)

there were a couple of minor scrapes, when the rain came down but nothing major,a good day out for all,and proving you don't need a performance car to have a great time, was the lad who only just passed his test and came in a standard rover 214,he had a great time:D

I taught him and his mate to drive :D

Thinking back, the most fun I ever had at Blyton was in a Peugeot 309 diesel that me and 2 friends bought off eBay for £98.05. As it was worth less to each of us than a pair of trainers and wasn't our daily transport we drove it to destruction  Losing control wasn't a problem as we didn't mind if we hit anything  More often than not the only reason we'd come off the track would be to remove a tire from underneath or in the wheel-arch :P By lunchtime the N/S front tyre was down to the wire, so we swapped it over. An hour later the front brake pipes exploded, so we retired it to the mud track where you don't need brakes. The engine was getting noisier and noisier, but hung on until we loaded her using a hi-ab (sp?) into the back of a 22 tonne tipper truck for her final journey to the scrappers. The guy who owned the tipper had a Sierra 2.9 which he'd acquired for the same purpose which went on top of it :D His Sierra however didn't last out the day as a runner, going BANG in a big way.

On the same day, THIS took to the track....

IMG_3234_2.jpg

....and almost got us banned from the venue  It was the aforementioned tipper truck which became the funeral car for my little Pug

Just found THIS VID CLIP if the link works, watch the last few seconds :D
