Featured Replies

Im abought to pick up my fabia soon and was looking at some mods to do to it. I notcied a few fabia's with "big mouths" like the one in the pic below

I was just wondering is this a new bumper or how do you achieve this look? Is there also an intercooler behind that grill?

cheers

this is a diy mod usually done to increase airflow to a larger front mounted intercooler, you can also cut out sections of the crashbar to increase flow

Thats my motor :D

Its done to increase airflow when you fit a front mount intercooler to replace the weeny side mount one.

tbh just doing the bumper and not the crash bar is pointless.

It was done with a stanley knife and bottle of map gas, to warm the blade to ease cutting

Anyone got any DIY threads on how to do this?

Also somewhat pointless unless you have said front mounted intercooler (not standard).

It’s something I have often wondered about cars with Big Mouths, do they suffer form more holes in their intercoolers from stones and such like?

no the mesh stop the stones (hopefully) ;)

The main problem i have found is flys and bees. Best thing to do with them, is wait till thye go nice and crispy then just get the vac on them and vac them off carefully without damaging the fins

A 16_7_210.gif at high speed can put quite a dent in an intercooler I’d have thought.

the mesh splits them into smaller manageable chunks:D

Like in the film ‘The Cube’:D

indeed it does.

I used to work on combine harvesters and they have very big intercoolers on the top of them fed with very large fans. The amount of half bees wasps and small birds wedged in the fins were unreal.

The service proceedure is to power wash the coolers every 300 hours of use

so what if i just wanted to get the big mouth look without having to get the intercooler? i just really love the look. Is it possible to just stick a sheet of mesh in. How do you do it? just remove the number plate holder and the bottom grill?

any1?

any1?

Sorry i have a life too ;)

Well if you really want to go for it just for looks. Then you need to remove the bumper.

Remove the numberplate holder and the lower grill but popping it off its clips.

The you need either a hack saw blade of a stanley knife, cut the size of opening you want.

Then sand the edges straight or it will look a pigs ear.

The get your mesh and attach using blobs of sikaflex or a hot glue gun.

re attach bumper and have the nightmere of legally locatin the number plate.

TBh as said above pretty pointless unless your going for a FMIC.

I dont like mine with its open mouth, its purely for function purposes

what do you cut? surely if you take off the number plate holder and the bottom grill that pretty much is the big mouth look is it not?

No because there is still bumper behind the number plate holder. :)

What do you think the numberplate holder bolts on to. ;) There's a huge hunk of plastic behind it which is an integral part of the bumper. Take my word for it, you'll be performing some major plastic surgery (irreversible too I should add!) to that bumper to achieve the same look as Mr Skud, myself, and a couple of others run. :)

Must have been something wrong with mine, there were no bolts there at all

I got my bumper with no holder at all, so actually have no idea how it attaches, was just a figure of speech! :P :D

I went straight into mine with the airsaw and never looked back. :)
