TomTom into dashtop box?

Featured Replies

i got a better start up splash screen than that if you want it tom ;)

Hey Carl - Would you be kind enough to drop your splash screen onto this thread for those of us that could use it? 'Pretty PLEASE'

T.I.A.

Perhaps there's someone with brains who could come up with a 'BRISKODA' one too?

(that reminds me, better get me cheque book out for my memebership - :D)

Tried our Tom Tom 700 in the box today and as said it is to big ,however if it or yours that does fit have'nt you a anten'a such as we have to contend with?.By the way it looks good in your photo's.

there is a dashtop pod that does this exact job i remember seeing somewhere, although im not sure everyone would want it as it leaves your unit visible.

I hardwired my Navman (it has TomTom installed so can it join in :D ) at the weekend to the normal side of the dash. The parking ticket clip is good for holding the wire when not in use. It's also right on top of the fuse box so with the appropriate fuse lead off an ignition feed you can hide the adapter/12v Aux socket out of the way :)

I had thought about routing the wires to the cubby hole but prior to the above it was in the middle of the screen but TBH I find this more distracting than the side.

I wouldn't want it permanently wired unless the lid of the box could be shut on it when not in use, thus hiding the satnav from a friendly brick through the window!

I'd advise people to check their insurance terms if leaving anywhere in the car.

Many now exclude sat-navs, and any damage caused in thieves getting them!

I've just bought a Garmin 610T to mount in that dashtop box. I came on here to look for ideas.

I intend fastening it with velcro to the lid so it folds out of sight, and cable it permanently. Not sure where the holes will go yet!

I'll send a pic if it works.

Please do

I have a Garmin Nuvi 300 which I mount in a universal mobile 'phone holder from Tesco.

The 'phone holder mounts to the air vents and the complete unit with ball joint just slots in the top.

Much cheaper than the recommended Garmin mount and completely portable!

Thanks for all the comments - will buy a 520 or 720 later this week. Haven't really decided as the only difference seems to be the European maps. Amazon are selling a 520 for £145 - seems a good price.

The x30 range is due out soon so x20's should be cheap just now, possibly getting cheaper as time goes on.

There is a SKODA splash screen on the tomtom home site. You need TomTom home 2 software to access it.

Just got my splash screen  thanks again.

Garmin Nuvi in the ashtray - no mounting, just put it there :)

I have a Garmin 310 sat nav. I have stuck an adhesive disc mount on the underside of the compartment lid and this lets me mount the sat nav on its mounting arm so that it just sits nicely on the dash and can be swivelled to adjust its position. When its not in use, just remove the unit and shut the compartment, which leaves no external signs of there ever being a sat nav in the car.

Sorry, should have said - it's an Octavia II and I mean the compartment on top of the dash

I have my Nüvi 250 in the dashtop box, fits perfect.

It came with a disc, which I placed on the backside of the lid.

The angle is about the same as the windscreen, so the holder sits

fine.

When I leave the car, I put the gps and holder in the centre console,

close the lid, and no one can see that there was a gps mounted,

and no circle in the window, form the holder to remove :)

My Tom Tom goes in the dash top box - just got a piece of black plastic, cut it to the same size and the sucker mount sticks to it lovely, which stops the Tom Tom and my gear lever meeting during spirited acceleration!!!

My configuration:

Pictures showing just the Brodit Pro Clips & Brodit Holders, then with the TTG720 & iPod in place and finally with the TTG720 & O2 Xda Orbit 2 in place which luckily fits into the same holder as the iPod and I can use for Sat Nav or Music which is ideal as I always have my Xda with me but not the other two devices.

Nice and neat and I don't leave the round circle on the window for the scum bags to notice.
