30-130mph Hot Hatch Day

Featured Replies

Perhaps one for you guys up north as it looks like being at Elvington (Harry_vRS this is where you could stamp a mark for Skoda?)

30-130mph Hot Hatch Day

Ooooh that would be a great ‘put up or shut up’ kind of day. I wouldn’t mind a go at that myself:D

fwd only :P

Are there any contact details for that chap? I'm not a member but I'd like to pass the details onto some MPS owners

must be 4th gear? Thats quite a specific test, seems a little pointless tbh. How is not using the gearbox showing the real world performance of the car? In the real world I use my gearbox!!!

Be tough in a DSG as well, even in manual mode

Would be tough in mine! You only need look at my dyno run video to see what starting at 30mph ish in 4th does! Starting in 3rd would be much better for me.

30 - 130? Hmm, would hope to achieve that in around 25 seconds. The top end is the worst but I think 130 can be done without getting out of 5th?

Remember the TG test where something **** and slow (can't remember what) beat a Mitsi FQ340 from 4th gear?

It's a very specific test, but I suppose demonstrates 'useability' vs the old CTR 'thrash the nuts off it'* style performance.

*I know that's an exaggeration

130mph is pushing a little furby tbh.

After 115 is pretty dead, if i went i might not even make 130mph lol!!

Hey look CTRs can enter.

:D

How long is the runway at Elvington? It took me about 2km to get from a standing start to 135mph at the runway in CZ, then had to get on the brakes for the end of it. :o

30-100 would be better, its a pretty stupid idea anyway

30-130mph Hot Hatch Day

Elvington is just a short drive from where I live. I could be interested in this

I cba reading the link, when is this? Despite the same problem as jason, no boost at 30 in 4th, and then a clutch breaking amount of torque, i reckon i could pop an impressive time.......

"30-130mph Hot Hatch Day!"

Ok guy’s' date=' told ya I’d be back!

Right, I’ve got a 30-130mph day arranged, which will be held at Elvington (York) on 14th July 2008. This event is being run to give a good real world indication as to how powerful your car really is from 30 to 130mph, running through the gears and running from 4th gear , with the option of doing a top speed run too! Noise limit is 103db. I’m after 5 of your cars initially and will put up a reserve list, as more may be needed, so first come, first served!

Times and cost to be confirmed but you’ll be looking at a full day and ranging from £50-90. I will be posting this on a lot of hot hatch sites with hopefully a turn out of the following cars:

Golf GTi

Astra VXR

Focus RS

Focus ST

Alfa GTA

Seat Cupra R

Meganesport

Honda DC2

Honda DC5

Honda CTR

Cars will be run with racelogic timing gear and your car will also be able to be weighed on the day too!

Ideally I would like a minimum of 3 cars ranging from: standard – mildly modified – high BHP but alas, any will do!

I feel this should appeal to everyone, being that all participants will be of the fwd variety, all car lovers and you can take back all the info to your own forums/sites to give others an idea about your cars performance and how they stack up against other hot hatches too! If this is a success, then I will run this twice a year and change the format to spice things up, also it should be cheaper too!

Thankyou for your time!

Could be tempted. Would show us what a std furby can or cant do

I'd be interested in the 'mildly modified' category :)

The runway at Elvington is 3Km.

Doesn't say that exclusively Tom, but through the gears AND from 4th gear although I'm with you on the point of the 4th gear run and it's worth. Still, should be interesting :D

That's my birthday! Was about to sign up, but then realised I'm on kiddie duty all that week... :mecry:

I read about this day a few weeks ago... does look interesting, might pop along as it's not far away :)

If it were to be done in KM/H i would go!!!

It was a Fiat Brava 1.6 against an FQ-400 in 6th Gear from 30mph. 4th gear in an Evo from 30mph would annihialte it :rofl:

130 MPH...... Never been that fast.....

I'd love to see how your car goes after seeing the results from Shifty's RR:thumbup:

Id have a go at that :D

would be interested my self ,if i get my water injection box back asap

The main 30-130mph test is done through the gears guys.. The 4th gear test is just a added test..

The MLR (Evo) boys have been doing these days for a few years now and it's been very successfull, as it's about the best test of finding out the car's flat out performance (eliminating any launch **** ups etc :)) The top Evo times are around the 6 sec mark!!!! (Norris Designs)

I for one am looking forward to this, as I will be running the Golf and very interested in comparing it against some of the other tuned and standard Hot Hatches.. :)
