Tv for my new pushchair (PS3) ....LOL

Featured Replies

As above, give me your thoughts I'm thinking 42" as space is an issue.

If possible could some clear up my confusion over 1080p and screen (does 42" mean full 1080p).

This is gonna take some serious work on swmbo to get away with this one so it may not happen just yet

Hoping for something around the £700 mark as I'll have no ****** left at this rate .

Spotted this Buy a cheap Samsung PS42Q96HD 42" HD Ready Digital Plasma TV from PC World.

Is it pooh

I'm relying on you fella's, so hook me up

Get yourself down to curries, comet and dixons.. watch a few of them and choose which one you like, then go and trowel the internet for that model and buy it online because there are big savings to be had..

We saved about £450-£500 buying our sony bravia online! Just whatever you do.. don't buy it from a high-street store, they see you coming from a mile off!

We bought a 42" Hitachi 1080i plasma for about that, and other than the dead pixel on it (and the replacement!), we couldn't fault it other than the screen burn which was more to do with SWMBO playing CDs on the DVD player than any fault of the telly itself. Assuming you could get a non-faulty one, I think you'd struggle to get anything better for the price - the KDL40W2000 we got as a replacement doesn't have anything like as good a picture, and took weeks to set up (including hacking into the service menu!) If it wasn't for the wife's insistence on abusing the DVD player, I'd definitely have stuck with plasma...

Oh, and I made the mistake of calling 1080p 'not proper HD' on here - it's apparently just a difference in how the picture is rendered rather than any reduction in resolution. 720p is apparently the thing that's touted as HD when it isn't really.

HTH :)

LCD seems to be the better choice over Plasma at the moment.

I bought a 42" LCD 1080p LG a few months ago and have been very happy with it.

As before don't buy from a high street retailer unless they'll price match an online competitor.

Believe me, unless you've seen both showing the same programmes in the same room, you won't appreciate how much better the picture is on a plasma than on an LCD. Our plasma was only mid-range, whereas the LCD replacement is one from the top of the range. Colours on the plasma were bolder and truer, there were no look-angle issues, it didn't suffer from vignetting, it didn't take an age to set up. Curiously, I reckon that - other than being a bit dim in high ambient light levels - the picture's better on the cheapo Wharefdale telly we've got in the kitchen!

Oh, and the only reason why LCD is being so hotly tipped at the mo is that there are higher margins for the manufacturers... :thumbdwn:

Panasonic TH-42pz80/85 Prices around £999 various web vendors.

I agree with favourable comments for plasma, its a personal thing but although you can get sharper, brighter images on an lcd, they suffer with movement issues (judder on panning shots) and black levels, although better now, not as good as plasma. Even sony's flagship 'X' series suffers, and there way above budget. Ok so is this one, but only by a bit, sure you could pursuade/lie to swmbo, or if you can track down a Th-42pz70 ( the out-going model) it could be cheaper and is virtualy the same..

good luck:D
