When was the last time you cleaned your panel filter?

Featured Replies

If you've taken more than 15 secs to answer - it may be time... Go on - it's the weekend - two strut brace bolts and you're in.

Your mpg, engine power, smoothness (or lack thereof), smokiness (?) will thank you...

(I cleaned my K&N after 3 duststorms and 2 sandstorms - knocked out about 5 tablespoons of sand,).

This public service notice brought to you courtesy of Bas ......

I sometime take mine out, bash it firmly on the foor till all the gunk comes out in nice big piles then stick it back in again - does that count?

washed it last week, didnt take long ;)

I clean the one in the Roomy about every 2 months so about every 6-7k

51k, thats 5k miles ago. I'll probably give it a clean before heading for the 'Ring in may

Last Tuesday

now i just need to remember to wash the green cotton before i need to do the swap again

now off to find out how to wash a filter

After washing a filter don't you then have to apply oil to it (usually in the form of a spray)?

Thanks Bas, mine is in need of a clean.

A very light spraying, you don't want to overdo it and risk damaging the MAF. Green do a service kit...

Handwash with some soapy water, leave to air, then use the kit

Performance filter is all good, but a clean paper one is probably superior to a dirty performance filter.

K&N recommends a cleaning after every sandstorm btw....:D

oops.just noticed this isin the Fabia section

I aint done mine at all yet and the car's got 15k on (Just!)

It's been in for its 10k service, what it have been done then?

Nice thing is that K&N supply a warning sticker to place on the airbox, letting the mechanic know that it contains a longlife filter and NOT to throw it away after replacing it with a paper one....better call the garage mate....

  • 4 weeks later...

washed my pipercross last week - feels better but might give it another clean before setting off for the ring.

does anyone know how long the performance filters will realistically last?

Worryingly, I looked at the filter on the Mrs' car yesterday, and it was pretty dirty.

However, this was after a 60K service only a week ago at our local Skoda dealer - not impressed, as I am presuming, it should have been replaced??

i have a green panel filter and have seen the green cleaning kit for 10.95 plus p&p on ebay is this a good price or not? many thanks cheers
