I have a set of OZ super T's, which I have neglected with not having had the car for months, and also because they are a nightmare to clean. Having used wonder wheels which normally brings them up a treat - they are still looking grubby, with black deposits where the spokes meet the rim at the edges. Could be tar, but looks like its also a little pitted. Can anyone recommend a product or method for getting my wheels to look like new again ?

Meguiars Wheel Brightner is fantastic stuff.

It may have been the Wonder Wheels which has caused the pitting it fairly nasty stuff.

For the tar spots either a clay bar or Autosmart Tardis is the daddy of tar removal, Autosmart Tardis - Autosmart Car Care and Detailing Products

If you have WD40 this will dissolve the tar spots too but take alot longer.

Get them re-furbed and take proper care of them next time.............LOL

It's a genuine thought as I love the wheels, but I'd lose the "OZ Racing" from around the centres, and as we all know, thats worth 20bhp.

On a serious note, once they start to pit there is not a lot a you can do youirself as you can never rub them down and get them back to as new in the same way a re-furb shop can.

This process worked best for me, with the wheels off the car and away from the brakes

1) Powerwash the wheels, front and back, to get rid of as much loose gunk as possible

2) Dry wheels with leaf-blower

3) With an old paint brush, paint on Jizer or other water-soluble tar / grease remover and leave for 5 minutes or so to soften the tar / grease

4) Wipe off softened tar / grease with old newspaper or rag

5) Repeat steps 1 and 2

6) Apply white spirit (sparingly on a rag) to remove any residual crud

7) Repeat steps 3 4 and 5

8) Unfortunately, the pitting which I think is corrosion caused by brake dust is tougher. After trying almost everything else under the sun, the best results I got were from Mer polish, again applied sparingly with a clean rag, concentrating on the critical junction between rim and spokes

9) Polish wheels with a soft rag

10) Hang wheels on garage / shed wall to be admired in strong sunlight, never to go back on the car again.

I would say refurb is best. £50 a wheel at worst I would imagine. I got a full cutback, prime & respray for £50 + vat per wheel.

I have found this type of pitting on mine aswell. I figure its due to a time when I didn't get a chance to wash car for a few weeks and the brake dust got a chance to get well stuck on. Must give them a good going over, @Shifty if ya find a good technique please let me know

Sorry but clay is the only real way to remove them and yea its pain in ***.

Mate has Turini's on his 106 and seams to do them once every 2 months to keep them looking good

Tardis Will remove tar with the minimum of effort.

I used Wonder wheels for the first time ever today, wow its amazing. I took some pics for Shifty but just realise now that you've already tried that. Btw did you try rubbing them with a cloth when the wonder wheels is on? I used the brush nut did need to give them a good rub before the stuff came off.

Tardis, Megs Wheel Brightner, Clay bar in any combination and you will get some cracking results...........

Claying doesn't take that long. Much easier if you remove the wheels though.
