Ok, so it's being mapped.

Once again, i'm spending far too much on the car for what it is... hate to think what i'd be like with a VRS...

Little Felix the 1.4MPi Fabia has been booked into Jabbasport on the 26th April for a Generic remap... Should give me better throttle responce, better fuel economy (just what's needed for the 1.4!) and a overall gain of.... well actually only 5-10 BHp. I'm not sure if anyone has bothered to do this before but any reccomendations would be a help... like will the engine blow up? Otherwise... i'll keep you guys posted!

Mucho love,

 Duggie.

Wouldn't have thought you're in danger of the engine blowing up Dougie, am sure Jabba would've advised you otherwise.

Not sure you'll notice the 10bhp difference.

I have full trust in Jabba, they've given me great service in the past and it's quite a nice drive up to Jabba from Oxford... despite the massive distance. I'm not really doing it for the 10bhp, throttle responce and fuel economy were the main areas I wanted to improve.

Thanks!

Mucho love once more,

Duggie.

I don't know many people who have remapped a car and got better fuel economy?

As Johhny said 5-10 bhp is not going to be noticed

If the map costs £100 then it's probably worth a punt ;)

Economy is where it's at these days buddy !

Let us know how you get on. :)

this is jabbasport, so it's not gonna cost £100, i'd put my bets on £300+.

definitely not worth it IMO for a car like that.

Agreed, put your money towards saving for the VRS.

Jabbasport will always map an engine within it's safe working limits, so the engine will be fine.

With normally aspirated engines, you won't see massive gains from a remap compared with forced induction engines.

To help it breathe more, a free flowing filter & exhaust would help.

Sadly, I agree. When you consider its origins, the MPi was about as highly-tuned as it could be when it left the factory...

Could any of you guys let me know where I could get a free flowing exhaust? Jabba did say that throttle responce and economy would improve... with it's current economy, any improvement is worth it. at an average of 24ish at the moment...

Not sure about exhausts..

Speak to Jabba, they would reccomend something to suit i'm sure.

if your averaging 24mpg as standard you certainly won't see an improvement remapped as you can only gain mpg's if you drive really quite sedately and you probably wouldn't see an increase on a N/A engine anyway as the gains mainly come from the increase in midrange torque on a turbo'd engine.

your gonna gain nothing raelly except maybe a bit of response but is it really worth it cost wise combined with the increase in your insurance premium?

for comparisons superchips claim 5bhp for £300 on the same engine, what you need to think about is 5bhp worth it? then again i suppose its an increase of 6.5% over the original 75bhp

Much as I don't wish to impune Jabba (or anyone else), surely the MPi's woolly throttle response is down to the drive-by-wire throttle - as per all other VAG cars with DBW...? I can see how a remap would help there, although not sure how it would work out if I had my cost/benefit analysis hat on... If you want to see how tough it is to get more out of the MPi, look at what TeflonTom's been doing to his Felly...

just looked on parkers and the average mpg is meant to 37mpg so you must be putting your foot down most of the time to average 24mpg!

The vRS alloys wont help you there, much worse fuel economy as they have higher rolling resistance

PFFFFT 37!? nooooooo

Driving nicely (mostly urban) I can get 30 mpg. Driving not so nicely. 24 sounds about right. 37!?

The MPi puts out a mighty 68bhp, actually (about right for SWMBO's car, given today's tale of woe down the phone... :o ), so you'll get over 7%. Which isn't a bad percentage for a petrol engine, but then (with due respect) 7% of naff-all is naff-all. :(

Seriously, though, spend the money on joining the Institute of Advanced Motorists or an advanced driving course or something. It'll help you get far more out of your car than any technology could! The MPi's not a bad little engine - I know from numerous trips at the wheel of my wife's - so why not just learn how to get the most out of it, and then you'll have a 'mod' you can transfer to your next car too!

so you must be putting your foot down most of the time to average 24mpg!

I was just about to say the same thing. Swmbo has a 1.4 ibiza and it goes forever on a tenners worth of petrol with her driving, not as good milage with me driving though

i have no idea which is which but there are 3 1.4's apparently, a 75bhp 16v, a 100bhp 16v and an 8v 68bhp.

makes life nice and easy.

The MPi is the 68 bhp 8V unit. The 75 bhp is the 16V engine used in the Fabia mk1 auto , and the 100bhp one is the manual Fabia 1.4 16V. I would be interested to see what difference a map makes to the drive (not the power or economy , but the actual driving experience) on the 1.4 8V. I can get high 30s on my MFA computer doing town driving , Ive no idea how accurate that is though.

Sorry Duggie, but i don't personally think you should fit the exhaust etc.

Exhaust + Remap + VRS alloys already = £1500.

For that money you could have sold your and got a PD100 with a lot more potential for a remap and a lot better fuel economy too.

:iagree:

its not really worth while mate as you'll be throwing money at a lost cause.

i was chatting to a lad local to me the other day who is well into his clio's and he is planning building a 250bhp N/A 1.8/20 16v that revs to 10k but it'll cost him 15k all in, i simply suggested doing a cheeky turbo or super charger as you could get 250bhp easily with bags more torque and an LSD for thousands less than just the N/A engine alone.

I would guess you would see more gains by lightening the car, ie dump the spare wheel, rear seats etc if they aren't used. Free too :D

How much are Jabba quoting you for the work , and is it a custom map that they will tweak on the Rolling Road , or an 'off the shelf' chip?

I'm taking the car down so I guess it will be a custom map. Thanks for the advice folks but i believe i'm about to throw caution to the wind on this one. I've done the advanced motoring thingy through the RAC... i'm not sure if that's the same one? It was basically some time on a skid pan and a cornering course... I'm afraid to say that it would take quite a lot to part me from my little Fabia that's why I don't want to get rid of it just now (if i did however, i would be getting a MK1 Golf GTi cabrio, they're not much faster I hear?). I guess we all learn by our mistakes and if this turns out to be quite an expensive mistake then more fool me.

The weight shedding idea would be great but the roads around Oxford arn't great and i'd hate to not have a spare. As for the back seats going, arn't there issues that may lead to me becoming someone who puts a big sub in the back and hanging out at car parks on friday nights? IM NOT THAT GUY!! He he. Plus i'm often needed to take the dogs out or ferrying family members around, not to mention nights out with friends. As for the fuel economy, it has been said that I have quite a heavy right foot, Felix often toutches the 90mph mark on motorways, that's my fault though. Short of dropping a bigger engine in him i'd be more than happy with a 7% increace... he is the 68Bhp fabia... *cough* hairdryer *cough*. The other things i've been interested in doing is a bigger intake, a free flow air filter and the exhaust.

I got the Alloys for £40 from a very kind member on here... so that brought the cost down... had good tyres too, conty pro sport with 5mm left!

Anywhoo, fingers crossed, there will be a differance, i'll let you all know how it goes and whether or not you may refer to me as "Cock" in the future.

Many thanks all,

Duggie.... Let the criticisms roll!
