Skoda v's VW prices

Featured Replies

OK Ok we all know that basically the Fabia has been built on the same design as the Polo but why in your opinion is the Polo is worth 4k more for roughly the same spec over the Furby ?

You can't tell me the badge is worth 4K alone so what is it that justifies VW's to be over priced when compared to the so called lesser brand ?

Even better, try it with Audi...

I priced up an A4 1.8T quattro avant - 27k!

Is it worth

VW buyers will argue that you will get your money back at the end of the road, and it is a premium brand - well, at least the pricing is premium! So yes, the badge might just be worth 4k. For some people there is a lot of comfort in a badge...

How do the two cars' residuals compare in the UK? What will you earn by choosing the Polo? Here you will actually lose on the Polo!

Here's an example:

- Fabia 1.4 Comfort (2001), new 11,794 euros, now 8,200 euros

- Polo 5-door 1.4 Comfortline (2001), new 16,089 euros  , now 11,600 euros...

Not sure about 4k, but I suspect VW charge that because they know people will be happy to pay it! You don't buy a Polo because you enjoy driving, because you're a cheap skate, because you need a load lugger, etc, you buy it cos it's made by VW :D

Oh, and don't forget that VW have to recover the cost of their adverts too ;)

Agreed, but as you say, there is no 5 door estate, the A4 avant is a similar size, same engine etc.

I think in the first yeah the skoda will lose 19% and the VW 17% but dont hold me to that, it's just what I read in the daily mail last week.

2% doesn't make up for the extra

A note on Skoda residuals...

I've just been nosing at a car price guide book, you know the ones.. Anyway the second hand prices for the Octy vRS have actually RISEN in the listings over the last 6 months!! I know 'cause I've been looking at them for a while (in the run up to buying mine 3 weeks ago).

Also, look in the back of an Auto Express, used prices for the vRS are strangely blank...

Any VW's going up in value?

:D

This months "What Car" quotes the following for the various Polo varaints, (I have used the lowest specced model in each case with equivalent engines & body style) as whilst we know that Skodas traditionally have much more kit as standard, this doesn't seem to be so true for the Classics so is perhaps a fairer comparison:

Skoda Fabia 1.2 12v Classic 5 Door (64bhp)

Only thing to say about that is that it is for What Car magazone

I cannot understand why the Seat does so well, it in my opinion is a little bit boring in basic 1.2 form. Polo tends to hold value at the same level as the Skoda, not much difference, diesel models doing particularly well residuals wise. I think one of the best mass market cars for residuals at the moment is the Mini Cooper, but then I don't know why!

Good news on the octy vRS price rises, dare I say it. At some point early next year the octy will have to go. I'll be replacing it with something more exotic, not from the vag stable though :(
