Fill your tanks, fuel shortage coming - CONFIRMED

I went to one station in Edinburgh lastnight and only the shop was open, unless you wanted LPG.

Official answer at work is that there is no problem.

There is fuel for 70 days.

Tankers are running normal schedules.

Not sure if that is going to make much difference if the pumps get emptied by panic buying anyway.

Thats the real trouble...i only went to fill up as i needed to, as apposed to just keeping it full.

Obviously the effects and panic buying won't be visible anywhere south of ooh, Carlisle probably.

I've seen local garages selling nothing but the premium stuff.

Tankers might be on their normal schedules, but it's all the folk who panicked over a missing tenner's worth of fuel when they wouldn't usually come in until they're nearly empty that have buggered those schedules up.

Well as of tonight mine is full, and also used the vent trick and got another 6L in. :D

Panic buyer

Only kidding

where i live in the north of the artic circle (ish)( oh look an iceberg!) the pumps had ran dry of diesel at many stations, my dad went to a rural garage to get told £10 limit per customer..... so stuck 8.30 litres in and my dad came home told me to get down and do the same.... so i got 16.6. litres in.... :D

I only have to make sure we've enough till the end of next week, and then we're off on holiday

saw in the paper a garage only allowing £10 max at time to be bought which is about 7 litres, its this that causing panic buying too. people should only be allowed to buy the fuel at a rate ofminimuim of 30 litres max 50, this will stop the top uppers anyway imho.

Thing is, what would happen if you just went and put £20 in anyway !

What can they do ?

That idea is flawed, you can't make someone buy more fuel than their tank will hold.

What about someone that just wants to top their tank up before a long journey? After all you wouldn't want to run out on the motorway now.:rolleyes::D

not at all, the panic buying of people only putting in up to 20 litres is causing the problems. when someone pulls up on the forcourt the garage should look to see how low the needle is anything lower than half gets filled up. or how about banning people filling up cans.

I went through this the last fuel strike and had to fill up a virtually empty car at £10 a time, the garage would shut the fuel off at £13-£15 and it took 3 attempts to get the car completley filled up and over an hour of queing. this wasnt the case in the 70's when a minimium purchase was required.

So has anyone noticed panic buying? Must admit I've only seen the normal queues

or is it all staying normal

I filled up from very well down in the tank today and had to wait 10 minutes to get to a pump. This is near Portsmouth too!!

not bothered,i'll just pinch some more from wagons when the pumps run out;)

i filled up thursday night when my tank got down to a quarter, no queues here, but tonight they were fighting over the fuel pumps. The media has a huge part to play as they are saying dont panic etc and are filming people at petrol stations filling up fuel cans and asking how they feel about it and what if the fuel ran out out cos of the strikes, then go on to say dont panic. for christ sake media, its you thats causing it, stop reporting it and things will get better. rant over ;)

They'll lock the pumps via the tills to only deliver £10 fuel.

Many stations restrict fuel delivery at night to avoid drive-offs. The local Texaco where I used to live had a £30 limit between 10pm and 6am.

Ahh..always wondered how they'd do it. :)

Just tried 6 Shell's and 3 Esso's in the Edinburgh area with no luck. ( although a couple did have UL ) Was on fumes so actually had to pay for some at Tesco rather than use the company shell card.

Was a weird experience.

I'll sell you some out my tank mulv..just pop round ;)

Tanked up with BP Ultimate today in a deserted petrol station.

Admittedly, this is almost as far away from Scotland as you can get, so there's no rushing for fuel down here (thank god!)

Jason,

At least if i tried, i could get to Devon to fill up.

Just i'd be back to square one by the time i got home ! :D

after they run out of fuel could we not take advantage and top up hadrians wall then throw that tuuat brown over it.. back where he belongs.....
